Starts, but won't run
Filled up with E-15 at a Sheetz here in Manassas on Friday, drove the 6 miles home and parked my truck.
Next morning (Saturday), she'd start, run for a little, then sputter and die. If I gave her any throttle, she'd die almost immediately. Tried to start her again (during the same 5 minutes) only to have the starter spin and not catch. A few hours later, she'd start but not run long enough to even move the truck. My master mechanic brother says it's water in the fuel, the first thing that crossed my mind was the FPDM gone bad, although I dropped the spare, crawled under my truck to inspect the FPDM for cracks, etc. in the body of the module that would let water in, not seeing any, I'm at a loss. Could the FPDM go bad without cracks letting water in? I've already purchased a new FPDM just in case, damn thing cost me $102 and change from NAPA (upside is, I can take it back if it's not been installed). My 2005 has a little better than 138,000 miles and this is the first problem I've had with it not starting. Any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks ahead of time. |
With all the ruckus with bad fuel lately, it might be.
I'd drain some of that fuel, and put it in a glass and see what it looks like. Maybe even try it in a small engine, like a lawn mower. If you try it in the lawn mower and it don't crank, you'll know it's bad fuel. |

I may just end up having to tow her to Ted Britt Ford in Fairfax and let them fix the problem (which'll likely include my having to buy a $300.00 fuel pump, etc). |
Problem turned out to be both a bad FPDM and a bad connection at the same time...what are the odds?

Odds are odds.. at least you got it figured out.
