2wd front hub/rotor change 04-08
 

I am about to tackle the front Rotor on my truck. Is the conversion to two units instead on unit worth it?

Prices for Advance Auto Parts and Napa for the Rotor&Hub assembly aren't too bad. The ford Dealership wants almost $200 for the Hub and Rotor part # BR303. Just the parts from ford would run me $400 just for the front R&H.

Any Recommendations and tips. I already read some threads. I would love any updates on the quality of the conversion Kit.

i bought the 2 piece setup a while ago. had to go through some deep water crossings a few times and the bearings starting going out. the bearings are not replaceable on these 2 piece units so you have to order the hub/bearing part without the rotor. i couldnt wait that long for delivery so i went back to the one piece setup from autozone. u can replace the bearing on these one piece ones and u get a one year or more warranty.

Get the Centric conversion kit.

I got two sets of hubs on hand, just in case a bearing goes south with a couple extra spindle nuts on hand too.

I can pop the bad one off, and put the new one on and at my convenience, press the bad bearing out and press the new one in. I love it.

Luckily, I haven't had the need to do that yet.

Whatever you do, DO NOT RE-USE the spindle nut. It's stamped right on there... don't want to see your wheel come off down the interstate.

How long did you have the centric Conversion kit manual??? How long are they lasting?

I put them on 3 years ago. About 20k on them. I don't drive the truck much.

They seem to be working OK.

i am almost 99 percent sure you cannot press the bearings out of the 2 piece spindles. they are non serviceable. you would need a new hub/bearing piece to fix a bad bearing on the 2 piece setups.

My Centrics have about 65k, not a problem at all. Almost all highway driving and towing. Gotta say, one of the best mods I've done. It rains all the time here, but not much deep water, so I'm not sure if you submerge them for long periods what happens.

I've had zero problems with the bearings or rotors. In fact, the rotors sold as a Centric kit are as smooth as the day I installed them. The original rotors were pulsing soon after delivery and continued on until I replaced them.

Ok I have not had same luck, I am on second set of Centric hubs with bearings, they are leaking grease and getting noisy again. I have actually talked with them last time as localizing failing side was not easy. I love the set up, but the bearings are only lasting around 40k miles. I have 130k on my 2005 screwcab. My left bearing is going again. Centric warned me to make sure to torque to proper lbs, I went and purchased a 250 foot lb torque and checked multiple times. The grease coming out is not a good thing, it is actually coating the timing gear on hub for the ABS sensor.

Are you replacing the "DO NOT RE-USE" nut with a new one each time?

Yes, I know they are expensive, but you really need to replace that lock nut to get the proper torque to stay.

The only other thing has to be the torque. Have you checked to make sure your torque wrench is correct?

No, but I have no way of testing....

Where did you buy your torque wrench? Certain brands offer recalibration. There may even be a shop in your area which can recalibrate your torque wrench.
