2006 Texas Edition Questions

Hello, I just picked up a 2006 Texas Edition XLT Triton PU and trying to find what " engine " it is and the valve covers does not have the "VCT Solenoids". When at idle it shakes a lot. Thanks.....

04+ are all 3v, or it's a v6.

The 5.4s have it on top of the air cleaner, to the point where it's stupid obvious, if it's a V8 then it's the 4.6

NEGATIVE.

There were 3 engines available in 2006. The 4.2 V6 and 4.6 2 valve do not have VCT. The 5.4 3 valve does.

What is the 8th character in your VIN?

All the V8s/v10 has them
NEGATIVE again. The only F-series Triton engines that have VCT are the 4.6 3 valve (2009 and 2010 only) and 5.4 3 valve (2004-2010). The 6.8 V10 does not, even the 3 valve.

If it's shaking at idle, it may need new spark plugs and/or coils or it may have dirty fuel injectors. How many miles on it and do you have any maintenance history?
