Exhaust Replacement Suggestions
Hi,
I have a F-150 extended cab 4.6 STX 4x4. 2006 Patriots edition. I bought it used and it came with a Borla single in 2 dual out exhaust on it. I just had a tail pipe clamp on the passenger side repaired, and my mechanic told me that there may be some work that needs to be done in the spring. He said the 1 muffler inlet and 2 outs to the dual exhaust are breaking down not much left there. And maybe the tail pipes are not that great. This my work truck and my only everyday transportation.
I need some suggestions on how to approach this on a budget friendly repair. I love the sound of the Borla, but I searched this exhaust and it is $700.00 to 800.00 roughly. I thought Borla was stainless steel? So just wondering why it would be rotting?
I live in an area where the roads are highly salted.
Go to a basic single exhaust? Summit had a dual catback for like 229.00.
Thanks for any suggestions!

The Borla muffler is t-304 stainless and should be ok. I am willing to bet your exhaust is not the $900 Borla kit, but rather a Borla muffler used in a shop-bent exhaust kit. Which is what I would suggest you have done. Replace the current tubing with new, and retain your muffler. Same sound, same look, not too bad of cost.

The stock exhaust is made from good quality steel. Mine hasn't rusted in the 11 years that I've owned it.
If I were to upgrade, I would go the expensive pre-fab Borla. Since mine has been holding up, I'm not concerned with it.
If you get a cheap set, it won't last long if you live in highly salted areas.
