2004 F-150 Supercrew 5.4L 3V Engine Replacement
Went to move my truck into the driveway to do a brake job. Truck shook violently at idle and was running below 500 RPM. I hooked up my simple code reader and it gave P0300 code which I found relates to random misfire. Today I had a chance to take it to the dealership to have it diagnosed.
According to the report the codes they pulled were P0022, P0171, P0175, P0300, P0307, P0308, P0316, and P2198. After pulling the codes they did a relative compression test and found that the engine "would not hold compression". Also, they determined that the engine "was extremely sludged up". Their recommendation was to replace the engine. I'm hoping someone can talk me off the ledge and give me advice. This truck has 143k miles with routine maintenance. Any help is greatly appreciated. |
Sounds like your routine maintenance wasn't good enough.

Local shop put in new 5.4 from ford, new coil packs, new manifolds, new CATs, changed all fluids(rad, Trans, front and rear diff), new front and rear pinion seals, fuel filter. taxes in $7200.

There are no "new" 5.4 engines. You got a reman.
