Rear differential pinion seal - who's changed it out themselves?
Just looking for a degree of difficulty and maybe some pointers.
I've seen a few videos online about marking everything so that all gets aligned properly when bolted up again. Also about marking the pinion nut and counting the threads showing prior to taking it off so it can be put back in correctly. Any other advice? Plan to chock all the wheels and do it on the ground (not lifting) if possible. Thanks! |
Well, you already know the importance of putting the yoke, washer, nut back to exactly the same position as found. That's the key. I've helped a buddy do it a couple times ..... on two separate police cars over the years that I can recall just off hand.
That's how we did it, no torque wrenches used as we were putting the nut back exactly where it was .... and in both cases .... no problems and no more leaks. I have also done it on a couple POVs myself .... just if you do put it on ramps, blocking and a good park brake are best as you are gonna apply some torque removing the nut after making all the marks. :) |
I did the same method on my mustang and no leaks since.
