Back in the saddle......
Back in the saddle......
Hi Gang, I've been gone for nearly 2 years from this site, and mostly hung out in the '09+ thread when I was here. I sold my '10 a couple years back and caved into the wife's desire for a minivan with a couple little carpet crawlers at the time. I hated not having a truck..... really hated it. Came across a steal of a deal on a crashed up '06 Lincoln Mark LT and dove right in.
I got the thing all fixed up with a replacement rad support, rad, condenser, bumper assy, fender, hood, grill, air bags, control module, seat-belt pre-tensioner, blah blah blah. Auto body is my area of expertise and how I pay my bills, so this repair is second nature.
Enough history, on to the questions.........
The truck has the 5.4 3v, and I have absolutely zero knowledge of its maintenance history. It has about 150,000 MILES on it. It appears to run pretty good, but I haven't driven it since I got it home. I did drive it home though about 15 miles total the day I bought it. It has no dash light error codes, stored codes, or any obvious faults at all.
Where the hell do I start a solid maintenance schedule on this thing? I don't want to start throwing money at it if I don't need to, but need it to be reliable enough to stuff the family in and pull a camping trailer around. It will not be my daily driver.
I want to assume that it has at some point in its life had the dreaded plug change done, but I don't know where they sit for mileage on the new plugs, or if it has ever had the plugs done at all.
Ultimately, what would YOU do if it was your money that you were spending on this truck? Which parts do you change as a start to preventative maintenance and what do you simply inspect?
I am considering....
.. oil, to synthetic, and filter.
.. air filter
.. fuel filter
.. front and rear diff fluid,
.. transfer case fluid
.. tranny fluid (although I haven't began to look into how this is done on this truck yet)
.. plugs (please don't break)
.. brake pad check, and fluid refresh
.. engine coolant is new from rad replacement
.. power steering fluid is new from line replacement
.. ?
Please add, subtract, or modify my list as you see fit. It's a 10 year old high miler.
