'05 5.4 acceleration issues?

OK I'm new to this site but figured this would be the place to look for an answer. I just bought a used 05 f150 XLT super crew 4x4 with the 5.4l. Now, the dealership has agreed to take a look at it but... Its a dealership... So figured I'd see what I can find on my own. Now, it has an airaid cai on it, not sure if any other mods are there. But when I go to accelerate there's a full 'one one thousand' count before the engine decides to go. It has plenty of power but that delay really sucks! Also, it only happens when I hit the gas after having let off it completely. If I keep my foot on the pedal and just adjust the amount of pressure applied it responds as it should. Any ideas??? I love this truck but this is not cool!

That's electronic throttle delay. With that intake, you need a programmer and custom (not canned) tunes to keep it from running too lean, a good tune will minimize the delay too.

I recommend a SCT device with tunes from one of the good mail order tuning houses, take a look through our programmers and tuning forum.

The dealer is probably not going to be able to do anything due to the aftermarket intake but you might want to ask them to clean the throttle body, that may help a bit.

Well what luck as someone has posted an sct tuner on cl near me. How can I tell if it works correctly? Don't wanna drop $250 on a broken tuner. I do appreciate the response as this is the first thing I have heard that wasn't a shot in the dark guess. My dad just bought a truck too and his has a tuner. To save me having to comb thru all the tuning posts what kind of tune would you recommend? I have no experience tuning

I would buy a NEW SCT from one of the good tuning houses and have them CUSTOM tune it.

Again, read some threads in the programmers forum.

Just some food for thought, but I have an '05 with the 5.4 that I just had into the dealer to replace a pedal position sensor that was malfunctioning. As part of this service, the dealer reflashed my truck and I have to say that after this service, the throttle response of my vehicle is night-and-day better! Now, how much of this increased response is the result of the new pedal position sensor and how much is the result of the reflash who knows, but I'm wondering if something as simple as a reflash might help your condition......???

A reflash may help with the throttle response, but it still won't compensate for the aftermarket intake. The 5.4 3 valve is particularly sensitive to the MAF sensor not being in a stock intake. "Canned" tunes with ANY programmer will NOT fix this unless they are written for that specific intake.

I see you found the programming forum, and I replied to your post. Read through some of the threads, certain names keep coming up as reliable mail order tuning houses.

Also, I'd check and clean the air filter.

Also, clean the MAF sensor. $5 can of CRC cleaner will do it wonders.
