They didn't have backup cameras in 06.

They started in 2007 or 2008 and the factory ones are on the tailgate handle. I think the screen was in the rear view mirror. They switched them to the Ford oval on the tailgate sometime in the 2009+ generation.

thanks...

have you seen the camera view from the tail gate handle?

its mostly angled for hooking up a trailer, correct?

that's all i really want it for. not using it to backup long distances...

the emblem cam is much better imo and i have a friend who has it. wonderful for hooking a trailer up...

I haven't seen the view of the handle camera. You could go the emblem route, it's probably more expesive though.

The emblem camera would also be a little closer to the hitch maybe going you a better view.

I'm sure either would do a perfectly fine job though.

the cutting into the tail gate to install the emblem cam is all i would be worried about. not sure i wanna go there.

and yes, tail gate cam is much cheaper than the emblem cam...

thanks for the information...

Honestly, not sure you'd need to cut anything. The wiring may run through the holes for the alignment pins on the emblem. Who knows though.

The handle camera seems like the cheaper and easier route, I agree.

here is the thread i read a while back. minimal cutting/drilling.

i might go that route. the emblem can be had on ebay for less than $60. just need to find a camera that will fit the hole and it would be much cheaper than buying from ford.

I have been looking at back-up cams and there are some that are license frame replacements, and that is as close to the hitch as you can get

I bought the handle with camera, $143 shipped off Ebay, for my truck and plan on installing it some time in the next couple weeks. I just need to figure out if I can use an aftermarket rearview mirror, because of the "black box" attached to the stock mirror, or if I will have to install a new headunit.

How is the license plate frame camera for hooking up to a trailer? I've been looking at one for mine but I'm unsure if the camera will turn down far enough. Can you confirm. Thanks
