Different size auto spring ?? Old vs new
'04 FX4 crew.
I have old auto spring level kit 1.5" and one side is broke (top bolt 2 of 3 ) when tried to replace the upper control arm. I called auto spring and they sent me one new to replace. Today I got it. And The new one Looks much smaller in height compare to old one I tried called but they are closed till Monday argh. Did they change the height of level kit for 1.5" ? Thanks |
I would guess that your old one is possible larger than a 1.5". If they did change the sizes, then you will probably have to get another one of the new ones if you want the truck to not be lopsided. What is the height difference on the two spacers?

Or your old one was the original style and the new one you got is the redesigned offset style. Either way, I'd replace both at the same time. If one side managed to break, the other side may not be far behind.

I took it out...
It's only few MM different...new one is a bit short in height Should I have some concern ? Will it effect the tire wear or anything ? Thanks |
I wouldn't be concerned with a few mm difference. It won't make the truck sit noticeably lower on one side.
As far as tire wear, that all depends on your alignment. You could have one side one inch higher than the other and with a proper alignment and normal tire rotations the tires would wear fine. |
If its only a few mm difference then it shouldn't be an issue. Maybe they changed the size because the previous spacer yielded slightly more than 1.5" of lift. Like pizzaman said, tire wear should be fine with a good alignment.

Talked to auto spring. They said it changed the design level kit 1.5 since mine is original.
I had to buy one side level kit to match other side since they sent me free replace. He recommend do the both due to geometry (spell?) front ends. Thanks Jake |

Thanks Jake Yes, they must have redesigned the whole level spacer line up.. My new 2.5 spacer was a hair shorter than my old one and my ride height went from slightly nose high, to perfectly level.. I believe the steel plating is just thinner gauge in thickness compared to the old.. |
I have a 2.5" Autospring kit up front and a 1" Autospring kit in the rear of mine (rear kit comes with 3" blocks to replace the stock 2" blocks). Hopefully gonna take it all off this weekend and sell both. I'm going back to stock size tires next Friday and want to put the truck back to stock height as well. The kits have been great, as I installed them back in '07/'08 I believe.
