Looking for My new used F-150.

Hello, new here, but not to Fords. But I haven't had one in 20 yrs.
I've been looking for good usedF-150's and found several,1-2 owners w/low miles,FX,Ext cab,cheap w/4.6 v8's.
I don't tow much, and not cattle or heavy loads,so might not need bigger V-8.Heard the usual good and bad about both.
I live in very rural NM and the roads are crap, even hwy's.
One guy told me the ext cab without the door post would rattle out of alignment.as he'sadjusting a 4 dr....LOL.
Heard 4.6 was gutless, then how good they are overall.
Heard 5.4 had timing/ plug problems
I really don't want 4 dr and no bed to speak of.
Not a racer, but need some power and still decent mileage. Seems these trucks get as good almost as my Tacoma w/315k on it,which I am keeping as hunting rig. I know taking care of rig makes for long life.Had 560k on 1st Toyota and 400k on my last 65' F-250 4x4.
Suggestions?

Go for an 06-08 4.6 super cab 6' bed. Sounds like that's what you'll need. You can have find 6' beds on the super crew as well, but the 5' bed is the most common.

A used vehicle can always be a gamble, a one owner with records would be your best bet. But first impression should tell you if it was taken car of well or not.

Just my personal opinion.

Carfax will tell you if its been in any accidents. If you could get your hands on a dealer oasis report, that would have a lot of useful info as well. Any time the truck has been serviced for any reasons at any ford dealer, it'll show up on that report.
