Ok my bros 04 with 240xxx km has had a tick since day 1 but has worsened over the years! Damn cam phasers! Well she finally died and when he started it back up it was running like a bag of..... And threw a few codes about timing and blah blah lean blah. Anyways long story short check and clean or replace the solenoids that control the cam phasers! Runs great and it ticks like all the new ones again!

 

I'll take a rebuild at a quarter of a million miles any day.
