Oil Filters
The mechanics said that K&N and Mobil filter weren't that good.
I'm really hoping that was an April Fool's joke.
When I was having my SC installed at Troyer back in the day he showed me the difference between a K&N oil filter and a cheap one. He grabbed a square ended toothpick and pushed in on the K&N anti drain valve and it flexed very well. Then he grabbed the cheaper filter and the tooth pick broke and didn't even flex. I did the same test and sure enough the cheap one didn't budge. Living in colder temps you don't want an already stiff valve to get even stiffer (that's what she said).
To me that was a very visible sign of quality and I've been using K&N ever since.

That's the difference between silicone and butyl rubber. The FL820S has a silicone valve as well. Unless you're shooting for extended drain intervals, the motorcraft would do fine. I keep my intervals short (5k miles or so) and the 820S works like a charm.

I've mentioned it before, but I use Wix on everything I own with an ICE. They aren't much more expensive than the budget filters, and can be found at O'Reilly's and many Wal-Marts. The motorcraft is comparable to the Wix. You can run K&N/Mobile 1/etc if you want to, but I don't think the additional $5+ is really buying any additional protection at 5-7K miles on an oil change.
