Seller's Remorse?
Hi all. Ok so im reletively new to the forums. I recently traded off my 1998 SCAB 4x4 4.6l. Had 306,000 miles on it. I owned it for 15 years. Had original engine, trans, rear end etc. Truck was excellent body wise. Had started a head gasket leak. So went looking and bought a 2007 KR SCREW. 114000 mi. Gave 14900 for KR. Truck was one owner mint condition inside and out. Very well maintained, service records etc.. Had plugs and cops done after i bought it. After reading through the forums, im now wondering if i should have just replaced heads or put new motor in the 1998. I know its moot now but just curious as to others thoughts. Very happy with the new (for me) rig. But was happy with the old rig for 15 years. So.... any thoughts

I'm not sure why you'd get the impression that the newer model is worse than the old one. You bought a solid truck and won't likely have any problems out of it. The new ones are nice and ride/drive worlds better than the 97-03 models do. Enjoy the truck and welcome.

Sorry sooner, didnt mean to give the impression i thought the newer truck was not as good. I was just curious if it might have been worth it to fix the old one instead of buying another. Couldnt be happier with the new truck. I will admit i was a bit nervous at first. When you own the same vehicle for 15 years, you dont keep up with the latest trends. I have read a million horror stories about the 5.4 3v. But i have also read many about people who love that truck/motor combo. There are lots of em out there still ticking.

"BT-DT" applies. ..... and I learned that once sold 'tis best by far to just "let go". I mean to say "don't even entertain those thoughts of seller's remorse". Concentrate on the current one, you'll be happier and think clearer about any mods or maintenance or just enjoying what it has to offer. Like marriage  ..... sort of. :coffee: |
Just about every engine has horror stories if there are enough of them made. The downside to a lot of forums is that people rarely join a forum when their truck is operating perfectly. The sheer number of 3V 5.4L's which had problems versus the number produced is likely a very small percentage, so the chances of you having some major failure are unlikely in the grand scheme of things.
As far as the selling of the old truck, it was a solid truck no doubt, but at 300K miles on the original engine/tranny/rear end it will fail eventually despite the excellent history, you were likely running on borrowed time until something let go. My 98 F-150 Scab was a solid performer and never let me down, but I still decided to upgrade with 150K or so on original stuff. I wasn't worried that it was going to break down, but I didn't want to worry about the increased maintenance and downtime. |
You by far made an excellent deal for getting a mint King Ranch. These newer trucks are by far better, '09+ is even better, so is '11+ with the updated powertrains. I think you got plenty of life and use out of the old one. Deserve the chance to do it again with a newer nicer truck. Focus on it and enjoy it, and remember the truck that took you to 300k miles was a Ford.

Well thanks to all. I think i got the answers i was looking for. Agree on the forums or why a lot of folks join them. Personally i joined to learn a little more than i did before and the opportunity to correspond with others of like mind or interest. I spent the day enjoying the new ride by conditioning my seats; a process by the way which i picked up here. Trust me, i am a Ford fan for life. My wife still tells me it feels like we got rid of a family member. I think she teared a little when i sold the old one. Lol. Once again gents i sincerely appreciate the input.

I totally understand seller's remorse when it comes to a vehicle you have grown to love, but the reality is that if I had a 300,000-mile truck I would likely have opted to replace it rather than repair it. 300,000 miles is about 3x what the average person gets out of a new vehicle, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say you got your money's worth.....

Thanks ddellwo and no doubt about getting $$$ out of it. That truck was like a Timex. Looking forward to putting the time in with a new one.

Don't second guess decisions. Just move on and happy motoring to You!

You didn't make a bad decision. You upgraded to a better truck.
I still miss my '99 scab... but ah, the quality of the '07 reg cab I have was worth losing the scab. Happy motoring too. |
Agreed on all counts. Old truck was great, but new truck super nice. Same to all; Happy Motoring- Live Free Drive Hard lol
