Will 295's rub on stock 20s with 2.5 level??
Hey guys, I am about to take the dive on a 2.5 level and new tires for my 08 screw 4x4. I have done a lot of searching and gotten some conflicting information as to what tire sizes will actually contact the control arm and which don't. I have no problem trimming, but do not feel comfortable with tires that will rub any hardware. I don't currently have the money to get new wheels, so I will be sticking with the OEM 20's. I know a lot of people are recommending the 285/65r20 for this setup (and I think these look good), but I love a wider stance and have seen some guys running 295/65r20 and others with 295/60r20s on stock 20s with levels as well.
My question to you folks is will a 295/65r20 or a 295/60r20 rub the control arms or any other hardware on stock 20s with a 2.5 level on an 08 4x4. Thanks so so much in advance for your help and input....PICS or other advice would be much appreciated :rocker: |

I'm running 295/65/20 on stock rims with a 2" level. Rubs very minor on the upper control arms. Really only enough to scuff the dirt off. Mind you I don't ever hit full lock when steering anyways.

It also depends on the type of tire you are wanting. The large lugs of a mud tire will rub the upper A arm with stock wheels. A lower shoulder A/T should work fine. I've got BFG KO's in a 285/65/20 on a 20x9 rim with 5.9" of backspace and no rubbing at all but there is not much room between the tire and the upper.

Dogem, let me first say that your truck looks badass. I love the stance. In terms of tire setup, I don't go in the mud enough to warrant something like trail grapplers, if I was going with 295/60s it would probably be something like pro comp xtreme AT's or Nitto Terra's. I haven't seen anyone running the pro comps yet though.

As dog'em says it depends whether you run MT or AT. From what I read when i was looking to go this route, the AT's do not rub but the lugs on the MT do.
I have 295/60R20 Nitto Trails and I had to run a 1/4" Spacer to clear the upper control arm like he said. I now have 2" Bora Wheel Adapters and I had to trim some of the plastic fender, but that is is. Lakemarykid,
That is one beautiful ride you have put together. I love the stance, awesome work. So it seems unclear if anyone on here has tried to do it with 295/60r20 AT's. A quick google search shows options like the terra grapplers, Toyo AT, or pro comp xtreme ATs. I think this would be the ideal setup for me, just don't want to do it unless I know it'll work and be safe. |
