never ending Level/tire help needed

Need some help. Have 2004 fx4 with 3" rake. 285/70-17s look small on stock and want to beef up. All the posts say 2.5" level for 35's and 2" level for 33's. What about 305/70-17's AT(34's) with 2" level? Don't want tires to look small again with 2.5. Just want it to look solid and not rub. Using stockers. I know 04-05 raked more. Found off brand for $800 out the door. Any experience shared with this would be helpful. Sorry about being redundant. Thanks

I'm sure more people will chime in, but I too have a 2004 FX4, and went with a 295/60/20 (33.9" diameter, 11.61" width) and have about 2" lift (from rancho quicklifts). No rubbing, but will also depend on your rim offset. I bought my rims used, so I dont know the offset (but by judging other rides and their offsets, it looks like +18)...just something else to add to the equation.

my 08 has a 2.5" with 33.5's. it only rubs very slightly when the wheel is cut full right in reverse. i have 0 offset wheels. depending on your offset i would imagine there would be minor rubbing. i don't think the 2.5" makes the tires look too small at all.

Thanks for the responses. I am staying with the stock FX4 17" rims and hoping the 305/70's will fit with a 2" level. Brazen, that is a good looking truck, mine is grey also, but just don't want to bite off into new rims. Saving for retirement and trying to be economical on an old truck.

These are 315x70x17 BFG TA/KO's on 17x8 wheels with 5.5 inches of backspace...they fit perfect with a 2 1/2 inch Daystar leveling kit. This was on my old '04 Lariat 4x4.

Here's another view to show how wide these tires were...they were factory H2 Hummer tires.

PawPaw, I have thought about 315's and 2.5 level but was not wanting to deal with rubbing and trimming. Does look good though. Thanks

I also had a set of 295x70x17 Toyo MT's (33.5x12) that fit great on 17x9 wheels. These tires were maybe a better fit on a leveled 4x4 anyway. Not stuffed and didn't cut into the performance as much as the taller tires did.
