2006 F150 Aftermarket Headlights

Hey there guys i recently swapped out the stock chrome headlights on my '06 F150 XL.

Now I have always been a fan on projector headlights. Had them on my 1990 Mustang GT. However, they look great during the day at night their functionality during the night was not so great.

Here's my experience deciding on headlights for my F150.

I looked around for many projectors on Ebay and local, and loved the look. My friends have an '04 and an '07 F150 both bought Ebay projectors and they were "cheap" feeling. The plastic wasn't thick like OEM quality and they held moisture like crazy. When turned on at night the LED's and Halo's looked fantastic (from 15' away :roflol:), but the overall light output from the halogen H13's was crap.
Like I said looks wise I love them but functionality they were terrible. I'm sure others might have a different story with HID's but stock not so nice.

So for myself I decided to go for a more OEM style aftermarket headlight in black and came across what i have now. I bought them without seeing them in person so i was doubting they "Ebay quality" but when they showed up i was amazed. There were thick, heavy and up to or better then OEM quality for a very fair price. The light output was just as good as my stock ones and the look was gorgeous!!

I bought them from DotCom Racing on Ebay and here's a pic of them. And a link to the Ebay site.

And of course im not s*** talking projectors quality or look (many cases are different), just sharing my opinion and i hope it helps anyone else trying to make this decision!! :D

I love the black headlights!!!
If you ever want more light you can do a retrofit.
It uses a HID projector and will blow your stock output and those cheap Ebay light output out of the water. and you can you keep the same look you have now, You can also use those black headlights.
Here are some of the guys on here that did a retro to get an idea. Click some of the links and most should have output shots if you doubt the retro.

Looks great... Now it's time to get rid of the amber lights and replace them with Sylvania 3157A/4157A ST BP SilverStar 27-Watt High Performance Signal Lights. This is what they look like...

They will be amber when on but not when off...

Wow thanks for the tips guys!
Lariat, that retrofit is a cool looking thing, where do you buy the projector itself??

And Jdruzik I will most defiantly be getting those Sylvania signal lights those look great in the pics and I'm sure even better in person! Do you have silver stars for headlights as well??

i had mine done with a mini h1 kit from the retrofit source in my '02 and they were so much better than stock it was insane. i recently got a '07 and had a member here, LTMARK, do a set of lights for me and they are so far beyond what i had before i wonder why they dont put these in from the factory. looks stock as well, pm me your email and i will sent you some pics and his info.

BlackXL I do have Sylvania H13 (9008) ST SilverStar High Performance Halogen as my main lights in my HELLA Ford F-150 Blackout Carbon Fiber Headlamps... Have you done anything to your tail lights? I hope this helps, good luck...

BlackXL 08-12-2013 11:59 PM

How do you find them J? Better light output? And what color do they come out?

Nothing is done to my tails i actually don't mind the look of the stock taillights on these trucks but i might swap out the third, i don't like the more chrome then red look, and would prefer it all black at this point!

Yes, the output is better than stock... It's a white light... Since I live in the Oregon Cascades the LightForce lights on the grille guard is what I use for a real blast down the road.

Here's a different look for a third brake light. Very bright LEDs, the cross lights are actually red...

Looks awesome. Any signs of condensation starting? My only fear on the Ebay lights.

Stealth 08-27-2013 09:21 PM

A quick seal and you nix any possibility of condensation.

For an extra seal what would I do? Just put a bead of silicone around the seal of where the front lense meets the back part of the headlight?

Correct.
