so i figured out how to mirror everything on my iPhone on to my aftermarket Head Unit. I don't know if anyone has done this, if so sorry for the re-post. Anyways everything i do on my iPhone 5 shows up on my screen. I did this mostly to get videos from my phone on to my stereo.

its a kenwood DDX419 but this will work with any head unit with an AV in input

i used an HDMI to RCA Adapter. You have to use the adapter because you are going from an analog to a digital signal(or other way around) $30 on amazon
RCA to RCA $5
Apple HDMI to Lightning adapter $30
hdmi cable $8

as far as i know it should work with any phone that is Hdmi capable.
