05' Rear road noise??
05' Rear road noise??
I have a 2005 fx4 and I have some type of "road" noise coming from the rear end. I don't know if it's the tires or what. I had the diff. fluid changed and fricton mod. added. The "road" noise is still there. Any ideas? Should I see if they can add more fricton mod.? I don't think there is any other issues that go along with this noise. It seems louder in the back seat than the front. Thank you for any help in advance. My kids are driving me crazy about hearing this noise.... Haha
I think "Road Noise" is pretty vague, that may be what is holding people back? Road noise is generally associated with tires on the pavement. Gear whine, vibrations, etc could be drivetrain related. It's really hard to say with such a vague description.
First, "road noise" is a pretty broad category. Second, it's virtually impossible to diagnose any noise over the internet. Yes, tires can generate lots of road noise. So can a bad wheel bearing, bearings going bad within the differential, a cat stuck in the driveshaft and any number of other things. If you want us to be any help at all, you're going to have to get more specific.
OK, sorry about that. I really don't know the difference in the noises. It doesn't sound like gears grinding. When I turn I don't hear anything different as far as clicking or banging. When going down the road its sounds like I have super swampers on my truck on the rear. Which is why I think it's the tires, but the tires are the same tires on the truck for a while and I just started hearing the noise. When the diff oil was changed the dealership said the gears looked OK.

Is it a Crew Cab? If so, there are Releases on the back top of the seat at each side. I used a screwdriver to get to them, they are kind if a biotch to get to. Pull the back cushion forward and you can see them. I would not cover both of them, the vents, they are used to equalize the cabin pressure when the doors are closed and to release air when the heater or a/c is on. You can cover one of them. Also, I used a Dynamat like product on the back wall metal, it helped a lot.
