I want to do something with my side badges...Opinions?

I want to do something with the big chrome side badges. Ideally I wanted them to be opposite of what they are now, chrome letters and black badge. But that obviously isnt an option. And I do not want to black them out all black (I dont like that look)

Does anyone have any pictures or anything on a possible way to get rid of all the chrome without blacking them out? I would love to get 09+ badges but I cant afford them right now.

Acetone the badges, and paint the badges black by hand with a pin-stripping brush and you can get black and chrome font badges. If you are up for the challenge, it is possible with a good bit of labor. Plus if you do not want it to be a permanent change if you plan '09+ badges, you could get away with not removing them from the truck if you mask and play carefully.

I have only heard this but I have never seen it done...

Acetone to remove the black from the letters. The use a crayon to "color" wherever you don't want paint. Paint over everything, crayon included. Then go back and scrape off the crayon and it should act like a barrier and prevent any paint from getting in there. Of course, you would need to prep the emblem with sand paper and I would recommend Krylon Fusion paint.
I personally blacked out my emblems and I love the way it looks. I know you said you don't want to do this so good luck with whatever you try!

Thats a good idea....They used to have a problem where the black paint would just peel off and ford had a recall on those badges. Why couldnt I have the ones where the paint peeled! haha that would be perfect.

I might try this though. That would look awesome if the were the opposite of what they are now. It would be really hard to do the little letters where it says 5.4 triton though.

The Acetone wont peel the chrome away though?

You should be fine, I'd just make sure to wipe the whole badge off every once in a while so the acetone doesn't "soak" in.

I just used a black chrome kit last week on all my badges. I didn't want to black them all the way out so i decided to use that and they look awesome now! It tinted them at night but during the day they actually look like black chrome. I love the way mine turned out.

Take badge off truck and paint black.

Buy vinyl letters for the F-150 to be chrome.
