Unhappy Low-pitched hum at 30mph & 60mph

I have a 2007 XLT 4x4, 2.5 AS in front and add-a-leaf in back. 55k miles on the clock. A couple months ago it developed a low-pitched hum/whine and slight vibration that appears at 30mph and 60mph, any other speeds it is undetectable to my ears. It seems more noticeable on deceleration, but that may be because I hear more exhaust on acceleration. Was told that it was the driver-side bearing, so I replaced the hub with a Timken. No change, noise is still there. I know the passenger-side CV boot is leaking, but it is still in pretty good shape. Any ideas? U-joint? Tranny?

I love my truck, but with 5k left on the warranty and 2 payments left, it seems like stuff is just starting to go. 2 out of 4 ball joints were shot at 50k (replaced all 4 w/ moog greasable joints). Now this. Ugh.

Still on warranty? Get EVERYTHING fixed or get rid of it.

I was thinking a u-joints, or maybe your tires need balancing.

Does sound typical of a tire balance issue to me.

Thanks for the responses. I will have the tires checked. I was going to bring it to the dealer just to have them look at it, maybe they can pinpoint what it is. I would love to get everything fixed under warranty, I have 5k miles or 5 months left on it, but I don't know what I can get them to fix. My guess is the CV boot isn't a warrantied item, especially with the AS level in the front, seems like the half-shaft would have to fail, even then they'd probably say the level caused it. Bearings aren't covered under powertrain as I understand it. If I could get the noise to go away and replace the leaky boot, I'd be more content with it.

Good luck with that.

The 2.5" AS hasn't done the ball joints, CV boots, etc any favours. I dunno what the warranty will cover if they implicate that mod.

There still may be crud in the CV with the torn boot....

Good luck.
