Strange noise under way

I have developed a new unidentifiable noise under way. It sounds a lot like the low power steering fluid noise except appears to be in the tranny or beyond (rear) once I open my rear slider to hear. I did a search and read it might be a pinion issue but any other ideas? It's slowly getting louder and I have another trip to So. Cal in a couple of weeks.

Thanks,

Chris

Any suggestions before I head to the dealer would be appreciated. It sounds like it's in the tranny but the tranny is working fine (fluid is clean and changed regularly). I don't really hear the whine at idle but normally under load. Now at all speeds.

TIA

Chris
