Ethics of trading a POS!
 

Thinking of trading in my truck, it's a piece of crap, but looks and most times runs well. 08 f150 65000kms. I have to disclose all knowledge of the trucks problems, right? I bought the truck with these problems because I have only had it a few months and put 4000kms of highway driving on it.

Kind of a grey area IMO.

If i sell outright, i disclose everything.

If i trade in, i'm honest if asked. although i won't hide a major issue if i am aware of it.

Follow the old military rule, don't ask, don't tell.

x2 to 06. Be truthful in both cases, but small cosmetic issues/etc needn't be made a big deal when trading in at the dealer. Large, more serious issues should be disclosed. Just doesn't sit well with me to hide something that could harm someone's family down the road.

Treat the buyer the way you'd want to be treated, best policy. :thumbsup:

What all is wrong with it?

If your trading it to a deal ey should be a doing a visual and diagnostic on it to give you a price on what they will give you for it.

If you are trading it in to a dealer, let them find the problems. They are not going to tell you about every problem on a used vehicle they are selling.

When i traded in my taurus for my F150, it needed around $2K worth of work. They asked why i was trading it in, i said because i want something new. They took it for a drive and offered me $2200. I only wanted $1K.

If they dont inspect the car first, that is their problem. There were some minor things wrong with my truck that they didnt disclose. Buyer Beware.

Legally you don't really have to disclose anything wrong with it.

Its in the dealerships best interest to try to low ball you as much as possible knowing that most people dump there rides because something is most likely going wrong or doesn't appeal to the original owner as is it did before. They want to resell as fast as possible.

But I must say.....what goes around comes around. One day you might be the sucker that bought a truck from somewhere that someone previously dump off because it was on its last leg.

Dealerships rip off plenty of people on trade-ins to not suffer from you getting the upper hand on your trade-in. I would feel bad selling it to a private buyer if it was about to break down though

Never tell a dealer theres anything wrong with it.

When I traded in my old Blazer it had a tranny that was slipping badly and pissing fluid. I wouldve been a moron to tell them that since they would use that to their advantage and lowball the hell out of me. They saw the abs light on and the puddle of antifreeze on the floor from a blown heater core but didnt even drive the truck.

I even got lowballed on my last trade in and there was nothing wrong with the car.
