Question 5W20 or 5W30 conventional oil

Who here is using conventional oil in their engine and are you using 5W20 or 5W30? What brand name oil are you using?

MC 5w-20 Semi-synth here.

Which is, in point of fact, 'conventional' oil - it's the factory recommended fill.

See below (ignore everything after #1 and #2

Conventional

con·ven·tion·al (kn-vnsh-nl) adj.

1. Based on or in accordance with general agreement, use, or practice; customary: conventional symbols; a conventional form of address.
2. Conforming to established practice or accepted standards; traditional: a conventional church wedding.
3.
a. Devoted to or bound by conventions to the point of artificiality; ceremonious.
b. Unimaginative; conformist: longed to escape from their conventional, bourgeois lives.
4. Represented, as in a work of art, in simplified or abstract form.
5. Law Based on consent or agreement; contractual.
6. Of, relating to, or resembling an assembly.
7. Using means other than nuclear weapons or energy: conventional warfare; conventional power plants.

Won't find a better oil fer yer truck anywhere, for the price (or just about any price for that matter).

I was just curious as to whom,if anyone, was using coventional oil.I also use MC semi synthetic 5W20 and MC filters. But,this last oil change I let a tire shop do my oil change. They used Valvoline syn blend 5W20 along with a NAPA ProSelect filter.I had to remove that filter and install a MC ,due to engine noise upon start up.

Why would anyone use 5W30 when it calls for 5W20?

I use Pennzoil Ultra synthetic 5W20 with a Motorcraft filter.

Why? Because Ford was trying to meet the CAFE Federal Guidelines to get every MPG out of their engines. But,I have very many Ford tech friends that advise me to use 5W30,only if I want to.And they also reminded me that Ford spent billions of $s researching 5W20 in their engines, but, the same bearing specs for an 07 engine are the same as an 97,98,and so on,and so on,that uses 5W30.So,you do the math.

You forgot one tiny detail ...

Unlike the "97, 98 and so on" ... the 2004 +3V's have VCT - so it's actually a bona fide requirement now.
