Dorman's Window Regulator's?
 

Had my driver's side window take the plunge while coming home on the highway yesterday and I'm seeing this is a recurring issue with a lot of our truck's.

By me, in the Chicagoland area, the dealers want $163 for the factory replacement, but I'm skeptical about putting in the same low quality part and was curious about the Dorman's window regualtor assemblies.

They are definitly cheaper and some reviews say they are more durable.

Anyone have any experience with them or installing them? Are they a perfect factory fit?

I need to get this fixed before the snow hits! :help:

I installed one in a Lincoln LS that I used to own. No issues at all.

I put in one OEM and then on the other side, went with the Dorman. The Dorman is definitely heavier construction and was about $40 less.

I put a Dorman unit in my driver's door 2 1/2 yrs ago. No problems.

Any places you guys swear by as reliable for these kind of parts?

Bought my Dorman at AutoZone, primarily as it was the only place open at night when I needed it. I think their price was about $125 as I recall.

I had the OEM regulator on my driver's door fail sometime around November last year. I ended up picking up another OEM one from Al Piemonte in Melrose Park. I can't attest to it's durability as it has only been a few months but the design didn't appear to have changed from the original from the factory. Either way, good luck.

I'd go with the Dorman part, it is better built for less money.

I ended up ordering the Dorman part, #741-430 from Auto Zone for $98. Picking it up tomorrow and I'll put it in on my lunch hour.

Dorman has always had a reputaion for making quality product, I doubt they'd make a regulator that was as poor quality as the OEM Ford regulator. They're here to stay in business, not go out of business. That being said, this is the day and age of the "bean counters" running the companies, large and small. I have an idea that's why Ford ended up installing that piece of "Yugo c#*p" regulator. "we've spent too much on this new truck already, gotta cut!" Why did such a nice truck end up with 10 cent rocker panel scuff plate decals? They used to have nice colored plastic snap in scuff plates (untill the "bean counters" came along)! :(
