Roll Pan/ Hitch question
Roll Pan/ Hitch question
Soooo..... Some douche hit the truck
and completely demolished my stock rear bumper and somehow took the driver side taillight out with it and nothing else was harmed.
I figured since the bumper is destroyed I would replace it with a roll pan.
My question is.... I have a stock hitch package. Would I need to take that one off and get a new one once the roll pan is replaced? I'm thinking yes since the roll pan won't sit how the stock bumper sits as far as placement, correct?
Also, any advice on a good roll pan or input on whether I should get one or not would be greatly appreciated.
It is an 08 FX2 sport package.
Thanks in advance

Depends on whether or not you use the hitch at all. You could always remove the hitch and do it without problem, but I value my hitch too much. I'm sure there's a hidden-hitch available for it should you need one. Also, remember how much of a pain it's going to be to get into the bed without a step.
You will need a new receiver. The stock one sits somewhat even with the step in the bumper, so if you kept the stock one on it would stick out roughly 3 to 4 inches past the pan.
I like how roll pans look on our trucks, and as far as companies Im not sure. Ive been out of the street truck scene for a while but each company will have its fit and finish issues

@ Sooner- I see what u mean about the step, that could be a real pain at times. Means I can't send the kids out there to get anything out of the bed. LoL... I don't really use the hitch, but it is good to have for those times that I do use it.
Shifty- Thanks for the receiver information, it would have looked ridiculous with a hitch sticking out that far past the roll pan.
Sampson, Max, and 88- Thanks for the links and the info.
I guess my next question would be steel pan or urethane? My mind says steel due to durability and a better custom fit since it would have to be welded on? Correct me if I am wrong please. I was also thinking if I got a urethane one, wouldn't it be more of like a clip-on to something?
The two I am looking at are the STREET SCENE GEN 2'S (urethane) AND GEN 3'S (steel)

Weld in seems to be a better choice because of it is obviously welded on haha but Ive heard guys complain that the fiberglass pans to be floppy and not very well mounted. This will probably vary by brand but that seemed to be major complaint
Another thing to think about is that you will either have to drill a hole beside the plate or drop the spare before hand and keep it in the box.

I have a steel street scene pan. It is bolt in and I love it. The problem with the urethene pans are they can warp and not look "right" after a year or two. Spend a little extra and get the steel, you will be happy you did!
I'ved had a fiberglass one on my ex 1987 ranger:

fit was dead on and looked A1 for the 2 years I owner the truck afterward.
I saw the truck 2-3 years after I sold it and was still looking good.
Steel or fiberglass for the roll panis great.
cheaper then urethane and I don't see urethane useless compare to a front lip that have way more chance of getting hit.
would love to have a rollpan on my f150..but I need the hitch to tow :|
