Another *#%$!*% misfire!

Well guys I have changed my plugs this year in May. Drove across the country without a problem. Drove back to my neck of the woods and had a plug back out on the interstate. Changed the coil pack and tightened the plug. Well last night a coil pack wasnt tightened down all the way so I fixed that. Problem is I still have an intermitten miss. I am beyond ticked and about ready to replace all the coil packs yet again.

Sorry for the long post just needed to vent a little bit.

LOL that is no where near a long post so no need to say sorry for it.

These plugs are touchy sometimes and for some people they have issues and some don't. I at first heard everyone say they have no issues when using the motorcraft plugs but lately I have found that's not so anymore and people are just having issues for god knows what reasons. I think when I do mine I am going to do plugs and COP's all at once and see if that makes life any easier.

Anyway hope you figure it out soon good luck!

I wouldnt use Motorcraft plugs unless you can get a good price for them. I paid $25.00 a piece for them. I just wish my truck would throw a CEL so I know which plug it is. Im tired of doing process of elimination on the coil packs.

Motorcraft plugs ARE your best bet the aftermarket ones suck for these picky motors.....get them from oriellys or rockauto....8-10 each

Are you sure they're torqued to 25ft/lbs?

Assuming you have a 5.4, Motorcraft SP-515 double platinums are $9.48 each at rockauto.com.

I have to agree with going with motorcraft over anything else. Even if I couldn't find them for least then $25 each that's better then replacing everything in 10k miles or something causing problems.

From what I read on here about aftermarket plugs is why I went with Motorcraft plugs. I should have ordered them online but Im very impatient when it comes to waiting for things that were ordered so my dumb self bought them from the dealer.

Now a technical question, I know you lose ft/lb of torque for every extension you put on a torque wrench. So my question is how do you figure out the correct torque rating with extensions? Or is it still the same no matter what?

Extensions yield the same input/output when using a torque wrench......

When a pneumatic/eletric impact driver is used with extensions that's when torque is lost through the spring rate of the extension.....

Thanks that makes sense now. I appreciate the help once again guys. Now just have to find a few hours to double check them once again. Also is there something I can spray on the coil packs? Like Di-Eletric Grease or is there something specifc that should be used?

You need to grease the inside of the COP boots with dielectric grease.

I will have to put some of that on the coil packs today when I torque the plugs down. Thanks, I'll report my findings tonight.

Don't get me wrong I LOVE my ford but this spark plug thing is the worst thing i have ever come across, I replaced all mine (but not with motorcraft) I strongly regret that i did that but it was working great for about 3k miles and now every now and then i feel a misfire going around 50-60mph! It makes me angry! I had a 97 f150 that i went 180k on the same plugs and it worked fine, my 2nd 02 f150 i went 150k without new plugs!!! and when i replaced them i used cheap autolights and they worked just fine! but no i have replaced my plugs 3 times on my 04 lariat and i have 90k on the truck now and it has begun to misfire every now and then! Makes me cant wait to trade in my truck but such a shame with 90k!!!!! Im ford for life!
But that ecoboost is looking pretty nice!!!!
Sorry for the Rant but i think everyone knows the feeling!!!! let me know what you end up doing!!!

I feel your pain. Ive never had a truck with sparkplug problems. I went ahead and tightened all the plugs down to 25 ft/lbs and put dieletric grease on all coil packs and still have a misfire. Called my local dealer and they say possible cylinder damage so it goes in this weekend or monday to my buddy's mechanic shop to get a compression test done. Fingers are crossed!

Hope it's just a bad COP or maybe as simple as a bad connector, etc.

I hope so too but it has a new coil pack on it as of October since that was one I didnt replace when I did the plugs. Why I dont know but it is possible that that coil pack could have gone bad in 2 months.
