Ticking and more (not cam phasers) Valve train issue

Guys, the strange noises continue to evolve in my 5.4L. Thought I had an exhaust manifold leak starting on passenger side, but the sound isn't quite right for that, and couldn't pinpoint it since I am moving down the road when it happens. It is most noticeable at operating temp, (not so much when COLD), when putting a load on the engine at low rpms and on the gas. Kind of like when an engine spark knocks....very similar noise, and happens when lugging it like when detonation is usually heard.

I was backing into the garage yesterday, and heard a distinct "tick tick tick, tock tock tock, yuk, yuk, yuk" sort of noise at idle, and very loud inside garage. This is not the typical phaser knock, because I have that too. Sounds to me like an old school v-8 with a bad lifter or too much valve clearance. I'm wondering now if this noise is associated with the noise I am hearing on acceleration. I know this engine doesn't use conventional lifters, but it sure sounds like a valve clearance problem to me. Any ideas?
