That really really sucks.

Have you considered getting the salvage quote from the insurance company and buying the truck?

Havent read your posts, but depending on what you have invested/installed, you can either take all your good stuff to put on another truck and sell the rest as salvage-or sell the complete vehicle yourself to another 150 guy that is willing to pay for your goodies (did that with my son's car).

I would be in a similar situation with my truck-haven't really spent that much time working on it yet-but the blower alone would be worth the salvage price.

And I certainly am not going to be able to replace with a like truck with the money they give me. There aren't too many '05s out there with only 60k miles and have been taken care of like I took care of mine!!!

I don't believe them. It ain't nothing but steel and it's all welded together. Ford also sells frame sections that are swaged for splicing and that once done, are certified strong as new.

You don't have to settle for their bottom line, it was that little hit and running snot's fault it was tore up while legally parked while you were in bed. He's how old? You have full coverage? You have as part of that "Uninsured / underinsured" coverage you paid for?

You didn't buy coverage so that they could turn around and take your truck away at partial value.

let the insurance company pay you for the truck ... turn around and buy it back ... take the rest of the money and purchase a frame and start swapping parts over ... you can swap the body and everything over in prolly 2-3 days ... it will be good as new ...

The Latest!

So far, my insurance company is having a hard time deciding what they are going to do. Haven't heard from them yet but they have had multiple conversations with the dealership, asking various questions.

I also have to deal with the body shop manager admitting to me that he has already talked to his wife about purchasing my truck should I take the total loss and walk away. I'm hoping that he is a good natured person and will not try and persuade me or the insurance company one way or the other based on his personal interest. He seems to be doing that... He is having a frame restoration guy come by and look at it today about a fix should they total it.

I think the insurance company can clearly fix the vehicle but are worried about additional charges once the car starts being worked on.

Who knows... I just hate this all being up in the air for this long!!!!

You don't have to settle for them taking your vehicle, they do not have a lein on it.

Tell the body shop manager to get bent and tell your insurance company and the owner of the body shop also what he's doing......there's no reason he should be trying to get a good deal for his wife off of your misfortune....

The truck would not be fixed at that body shop if it was mine. Best of luck to ya.

If the body shop guy told me that, I would do this same thing.

And that body shop would never see me again. I'd take the truck to the next guy. Around here body shops are a dime a dozen... I don't know what insurance you have, but with State Farm, they have a list of reputable repair shops. And If you choose off that list, the fixes are guaranteed for life(both by the shop and the insurance co.).

Buy it back from the insurance company and sell it to him so you can make profit off the truck. If not hes going to make thousands off your truck. Strip all your aftermarket parts off of it too.

Good News! They have approved the repair bill! I will have my truck again!

However I have to make a decision... what would you do?

They have approved a new frame from Ford. Obviously this would involve taking the entire truck apart and remounting to the new frame.

The other option is to have this frame restoration guy fix it. He has already looked at it and is confident he can fix it. He has been in business for 35 years and is an expert in his field. If I go this option, I will be pocketing between 5 and 7k dollars because the labor would be much less intensive and I wouldn't be purchasing a new frame. So I keep the extra money from insurance.

I'm really conflicted on this decision.
