I'm interested in this thread because I have a similar issue with my truck, an 05, 4.2L, V6. The break pedal is only mildly mushy. However, I have an annoying squeak at the break pedal. I've seen the "replace the MC" advice. One guy told me he changed out his break fluid and the problem went away.
Do y'all think a rod adjustment might help with the squeak?
Thanks
Mac

I assume the squeak occurs during pedal travel so the rod adjustment could help as there would be less travel. However, if the pedal is mushy after it firms up and meets resistance, the rod won't help that. That is caused by air in the system for some reason.

W O W!! Much better, starts real smooth and nice. Brake pedal is nice too...and only travels 2-3 inches total and grips strong.

I am still getting Problem #1 & #2....gonna talk to the dealer in the morning about that.

I saw the plugs they pulled out....a lot of carbon build up, and #4 was separated (broke off inside) and looked pretty bad!

Uin2it, good to hear you're pleased with your truck repair. Good luck with getting that last item straightened out.

Bluejay, thanks for the input on the break pedal. Next time I take it in for work, I'm going to have them attempt the rod adjustment. I really do believe the break pedal otherwise operates properly.

Turns out they said the problem I am having now is because of a "restriction at the catalytic converter" They are supposed to be Hi-Flow cat's! I guess they were installed incorrectly, or went bad!?

Gonna have my tuner write out the sensors and going catless instead I think!?

Well got word back from the Dealer (Different dealer now)...This service dept did a compression test and I have bad compression on 2 cylinders! They are gonna remove the valve covers...said if it has no sludge and is purty then it will be covered under warranty. I have to prove oil changes were done though.

If they have to go further, then it is gonna cost some major coin if the warranty is not valid. If its gonna cost outta pocket I want those heads CNC Machined and rebuilt before they put them back on.

They were throwing a fit about the aftermarket pulleys and the exhaust, said that might void my warranty if it's a leading cause!

That's who Im going with now..Gator Ford..they gave me the printout form the tests:
Cylinder #8 has 10% compression loss
Cylinder #2 has 7% compression loss
They are gonna dig into it Monday to see why and diagnose a fix action.

Apparently when I bought the truck it had an extended warranty cause it was a "FORD Certified pre-owned" good yes, but as long as the warranty inspector does not come off with some bs about why it's not covered.

Good luck...as far as the "grind on startuP" your starter was fried but check your flywheel (flexplate in automatic) for damage. Mine had numerous teeth that were jacked beyond repair. Cost me $1200 our of pocket for a new starter and flex plate plus labor to drop the trans. Fixed the problem but I cried for a week working the OT to pay the bill.
