I want an F150, please help!

Hey guys and gals.

Im currently a Jeep Wrangler owner. I love my Wrangler, but am realizing that its more about the lift and tires, than the Jeep itself. I dont take it offroad very often and with no AC and living in Texas, im starting to get worn out with the heat. Id like to roll up the windows if its hot and have a comfortable ride once again.

Here is my baby.

So what id ideally like is a F150 in the 04-08 models (I liked the changes they made to these years) Dont necessarily NEED a back seat, but it would be nice. Leather would be good, but again, not a deal breaker. and I DO NOT need a long bed.

My plans are to level it and shove some 35's under it. I dont have a ton of money for a big lift, and lifting them too high doesnt do much for me. Ill work in a small sub and decent speakers for a good sound, maybe a touch screen nav and audio unit, tint the windows and go! Pricing it out on autotrader looks like I can get a pretty truck for around $7000, but I was hoping for some first hand experience.

SO... from the experts... I would prefer an 04 or 05, due to price. Miles around 100000, and in decent shape. What kind of prices, realistically, should I expect to pay? What package should I look at for the features I want? And can the 2.5" leveling kit allow for 35's or should I only do 33's?

I appreciate y'alls help. Hope I can be a regular in the near future.

It sounds like an FX4 would suit you. Not saying that because I have one but the description you wrote made me think of an FX4. A super cab in a FX4 is very easy to find (along with most of the other models), leather seats are part of the package (although some, like mine have cloth) 5.5' or 6.5 bed no 8'. You said you don't always offroad so I take it you do sometimes? If you're putting 35's on the FX4's come stock with 3:73 gears. It will help a little over the 3:55's the other models have.

I got my 04 with 106,000 miles on it, power seats, windows, locks, rear window ect. But like I said it has cloth seats. I bought it for 13,500 out the door.

Good stuff here. Thank you.

Im trying to be around $7000-8000, I did find some on autotrader for around that, but it either has this, but not that, that, but not this... Good looking trucks, 100Kish miles, look clean, but the price just seems too good to be true.

There are a few trucks on here that I can think of that are along the lines of what you are thinking of. I can't remember their usernames but maybe someone else will and can post pictures.

Truck #1 Silver Reg Cab, It might be an FX4, but I know it's 4x4 Saleen hood and vents, black roof, HD valance and grille. It's got a lift, but I don't remember how much.

Truck #2 Black Reg Cab, Stepside bed, 4x4, slight lift, 20" silver and black wheels, Mexican license plates

Truck 3# Red Reg Cab, XL 4.2L V6 2WD Lift (or level?) black wheels, black tool box

I know that these aren't much help without pictures, but someone else may know what I'm talking about and can post pictures. This may help you visualize what you want to do (I did all the REG cabs that I could think of since you said that you didn't need a backseat).

Hope this helps!

Good luck with your search, and welcome to the forum!

I have a 2004 F150 Supercrew Lariat that is fully loaded with clean title and less than 130k miles. I have less than 7k into it and that includes a 2.5" leveling kit, 20" chrome wheels, 33" toyo mud tires. It is the best truck i have ever had and it is spotless. Not a scratch on it. Im on craigslist for hours a day and it pays off. There are some good deals out there and to pay 7-8k is realistic. Just keep your eyes open for the good deals and be ready to jump.

Awesome! I know there is something out there.

I test drove a Ram last night, it was really nice and a good price, but I hear those have issues... My dad has always been a Ford guy and I have always heard good things.

Welcome!

I started out life in Del Rio in the '50s .... flood in spring of '54 followed by years of draught. Never seemed "hot", but then it was dry then, and that was way before Amistad Dam was built. Dallas / Ft Worth / Houston / Tyler .... is heat and humidity

You are looking for a 7-8K truck with 100K on it and maybe a Scab? 04-05 FX4s mostly, if not all, have 5.4. I have a '07 FX4 Scab Flareside 5.4, and I love it. But my needs are different.

I think you might be happier with a 4.6 2v V-8 engined truck if starting out over 100K miles and spending extra on tires, nav, etc. Plenty peppy too! The Super cab has the shorter rear door and longer front door, the back seat you don't need will come in real handy at times.

For the record, my FX4 has 3.55 gears and 20" factory wheels, I forget why it doesn't have 3.73s just now?

If you want high miles (100K or more), you might not be able to get an FX4, but you could probably find a decent XLT or STX in that price range. XLT will usually have all the power accessories, keyless entry, etc. With the STX, some have power accessories, but most are like base models, manual windows and locks. They won't come with leather seats, but there are companies that make leather replacement kits for these trucks that you can pull the fabric out and put in leather. No matter what style you get, if the truck has a 5.4, make sure the plugs have been changed, or that will be a very quick 400 to 1000 depending on how many they break.

deff do able on price i bought a 07' reg cab(the bigger reg cab) 4.2l xl 2wd with 50k for 12,500...and traded it in for my 08' 5.4 scab 4x4 xlt 7 months later and got org. price of 12,500 trade in on a 20,000 truck......so thats deff do able....but anyways i would suggest IMO the 4.6 for urself better on gas and if u dont plan on moddin the engine/lift or wat not no real reason for the 5.4 plus gas sucks compared to ur jeep. my xlt has everything u lookin for except the leather seats but IMO leather+heat/sun not so good

edit: hell you could get the 4.2 v6 throw good exhaust, cai, and programmer and be good to go surprisingly that v6 got some power...surprised me

"scab" = Super Cab???

Yeah, the 4.6 should be fine. I not looking for a race truck, just something I can customize and be comfortable in.

Id like the power features, good for me and good for resale later.

The Jeep gets 12 MPG, so anything over that is an improvement. Gotta have leather... I play rugby 3 nights a week... Getting into a truck with cloth all nasty 3 nights a week will lead to a nasty drivers seat... Plus leather is just more my cup o tea.

Ive never modded exhaust, I always thought it was lame when people put a big loud exhaust on a slow vehicle, but I realize that a nice deep exhaust on a truck is nice, so im putting that into my budget.

Basically the wife said she didnt care what I got as long as I can sell my Jeep, use the money from the sale of the Jeep to purchase the new truck, including the wheels, tires, exhaust, leveling kit, nav, tint, TTL, and upgraded sound. Im not allowed to spend a penny out of pocket.

Jeep = $10500

F150 = $6000ish (dad is car dealer, we go to manheim for our trucks, wholesale)
Wheels = $150/wheel (approx) $600
Tires = $124 - $140/tire (treadwright retreads, 33-35") $500
Leveling kit = $100 (rough country)
Nav = $300
Tint = $150
TTL = $500
Sound = ??? (depends on stock sound and Nav unit)
Exhaust = ??? (no clue)
My initial maintenance = $750ish (that may be high depending on how the truck was taken care of.)

That puts me at about 8650, there will be some taxes I didnt calculate, but right around there... Giving me wiggle room on all the upgrades and the exhaust.

How we looking?
