New E3 Spark Plugs

Has anyone tried out the new E3 spark plugs out there for a 07 5.4L F150? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ETP-E3-70/ (or do a google search for the E3 part number "E3.70"
I wanted to know if they are a one piece design or not. There isn't much info on E3's website or google about this part number, I guess they are relatively new...

Not ready to change yet, but when I am, that's the plug that I will put to the test. Yes, it is a 1 piece. Ands indeed they are relatively new, but there are a couple or more who have used them. Do a search, you should find 'em.

Do a search on this site. There have been at least 3 members that tried them and had to pull them due to failure. Yes, they are one piece. If you feel you must go one piece, the best results being reported so far is with Champion.

I went with the new Autolites, which I guess essentially are the same as MotorCraft. The guy at the auto store said they re-designed them so they don’t have the same breakage problem. The mechanic I used, used to for at Ford Dealers and has seen a good amount when it comes to the plugs. He liked the Autolites. They are about $11-12 buck a piece. The E3’s were a little cheaper but I couldn’t find enough info to make a comfortable choice.

I am one of those with bad luck with the E-3's. They were fine for a few thousand miles, then started to get some missing and rough idling. Out they came !! Not wanting to put the two piece plugs back in I went and tried the Champions, so far I'm very happy with them (over 5K on them so far) time will tell.....

I have e3's in now. So far so good. They have probably have 3k on them. I am starting to get a rough idle though. So when I get the money, they will come out. Will probably be putting 515's in. I think.

They have been a good plug. Runs well at speed. There is no hesitation with them. But I really like having a smooth idle.

I have to agree with 88racing, just use the Motorcrafts. I strayed over to the Autolites and took them back out after a few thousand miles due to the fact they made my truck run like doodoo, so it was just a waste of time and money for me. I've changed my plugs 3 times (4 if you count the autolites) without following the TSB and only 1 plug has broken on me and that was on the most recent plug change, but with the Lilse tool it was no problem.

I neglected to mention that I replaced the E3's with Motorcraft SP-515 which also gave me a rough idle..it was after that I went with the Champions and have no problems since. Also have the original COP's still in (35,000 miles)

I changed my plugs at 30k miles, I have 54k now. I did it early because I figured that with the less carbon build up I wouldn't run into any problems changing them, and I didn't. I used Motorcraft plugs and new Motorcraft COP's at the same time (I was having a random rough idle and missing problem, so I just changed it all). I did a write up on it... https://www.f150online.com/forums/v8...lawlessly.html

I was planning on doing them again at 60k-65k miles or so, I'm starting to get a rough idle again... I was curious if the new plug brands out had a good reputation or not, and it's sounding like the E3's don't. I hear all the time how the E3's make more power, get better fuel economy, and last longer...in other engines. It would be nice if they did the same for the 5.4L...

Try the Champions gapped at .045". I think you'll be glad you did. I now have 24,000 mi. on mine and the truck runs like the day I brought it home from the dealer. No issues what so ever.

Have you ever cleaned the MAF and throttle body?

Yes, at the same time as the spark plug change. I got the spray MAF cleaner from Autozone and used that for the MAF and the TB. The TB wasn't all that dirty when I did it...

Just bringing up my old dead post... But any new choices out there for spark plugs for our 3v 5.4L? I've been doing some searching, and all I'm coming up with is Champion, Motorcraft, E3, Autolight, Pilot, Ford Racing, and Roush... which is the same old same old. I've heard something about NGK coming out with something, but nothing is indicated on their website. It's time to change them again...

I don't know about you guys, but I only seem to get a solid 40k-50k miles out of my spark plugs. After that I start getting rough idle and low grade missing. I guess on the bonus side, I never have to deal with the carbon buildup problem... lol
