WASHINGTON/DETROIT (Reuters) – Ford Motor Co and U.S. safety regulators have agreed to a greatly expanded recall of the best-selling vehicle in North America, the Ford F-150 pickup truck, the regulators said.

The recall is for a possible short circuit that could cause airbags to deploy unexpectedly, and involves nearly 1.2 million F-150 pickup trucks and few Lincoln Mark LT vehicles, said the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall affects trucks from the model years 2004 to 2006 and Lincoln Mark LTs from model year 2006.

Previously, 144,000 of the pickup trucks were recalled. The expansion comes after talks between the automaker and the safety regulators in Washington.

 

Got mine taken care of when I had the tranny replaced.

Just saw this on Yahoo also. Looks like I need to make an appointment. Could you imagine driving down the interstate and all of the sudden BOOM! the air bags go off.

 

Would this affect my 2004 f150 heritage? Its a 97-03 body style but made in 2004

 

According to L.A. Times: "The recall involves trucks built at Ford's now-closed Norfolk, Va., factory from November 2004 to June 2005 and sold in the 2005 and 2006 model years."
Go here http://www.ford.com/ownership/ click on "notices & recalls" and type in your VIN #. It will let you know; and if you are a winner you can schedule your truck for the fix right there online too.
I just scheduled mine. (make sure to read the options when scheduling) They tried to sneak and oil change into it that I had to uncheck. lol I just change my oil last month.

Hmmm....mine was built in March of 2004, not Nov 2004 or later....and mine is showing up as needing the recall service. Here's what I get:

 

Well it looks like I made the cut. I am so picky about my truck and I don't like handing it off to the dealer. Anyone have this done already? How long did it take and what was involved?

Mine was built May 2004 in Norfolk,Va.

Just typed in my VIN and it said i had NO recalls..

Edit: Whoops.. Entered a 4 instead of a 6 for the last #. Sure enough mines up for recall too..

OK so how funny is this.....

I had my wife's explorer sport trac at deal ship today getting trans service and I asked the service guy to look my truck up regarding this. He looked it up and said I was under the recall at the same time a tech was behind him and said "I'll do it right now". Walked out to my truck, took the bag off and replaced the wire harness in less than 5 minutes. This recall is nothing big and takes longer to get your paperwork than it does for them to do the swap out.

BTW this news cast was on their TV in the waiting room. It was kinda ironic.

Well the time period was just mentioned by the L.A. Times. Their facts may not be 100%. I would go by the dealer website that told you that your a winner. lol
