Spark plugs!!!
Spark plugs!!!
alright well about a week ago i had made up my mind that i was going to buy champion 7989 spark plugs for my 04' 5.4 3v f150. However now im starting to hear that on some fords they dont work...i dont see how that could be but supposably thats what happened to a guy in another f150 fan site. So that being said, for anybody that has the champion 7989 spark plugs please tell me if they work for you and also tell me the engine size and truck's year, model, and submodel of what you installed them in. P.S. I also wanted to buy the troyer performance COPs will that miss up anything or should it work good. Here is the link so that you could read the description and tell me what you think of them. http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...ogno=28-1812CP

Champion plugs
been running the 7989's for over 30k with great results. After 230k on my '04 5.4l F150 and 2 spark plug changes (broke 2 on the first rodeo and 3 on the second) you won't ever see FoMoCo two piece plugs in this ride. I have also seen people complain about the Champion brand, but no one every give a real reason why they don't like this exact plug.
I personally have not had any experience with the Champion plugs..if you go through the threads, some have had good results and some haven't. I am thinking it depends on how you drive your truck, I am considering trying them myself. I am one of those that tried the E3's and had some problems with them and put the Motocrafts back in (SP-515), that being said I still don't have a warm and fuzzy feeling with the two piece plug. As far as the COPs go..save your money! those are the Granetelli Cops which have given problems with some members here. The stock COPs are about as good as you can get. Personally ,if I was going to try an aftermarket COP, I would consider the MSD's from Summit Racing, they are supposedly a beefier unit and cheaper than Troyers (Granetelli--GMS). Just my .02 worth
first of all thanks a bunch for your reply sam1947 and thank you for telling me about the COPs i did not know they caused problems...i think i am goin to give the champions a shot however...hope it all works out ok in the end and with the summit racing COPs. Have you heard good results with those?
Most will tell you to just use MotorCraft replacement plugs. I however am running autolites now.

Plugs
Well I had my plugs changed almost 2 weeks ago, used the Champions. No problems, no complaints. Have noticed one interesting item though, at 60 mph, the tach is reading about 100 rpm's lower that it did with the Motorcraft plugs. Will be filling the tank later this weekend so I don't have any numbers right now but based on the fuel gauge vs mileage, I haven't seen a big difference either way.

ok well thank all of you guys that replied you all did help me choose to go with the champions after all and thanks again sam1947 for telling me about those cops i et you saved me a lot of trouble thanks again everybody for your help!
I just have a few hundred miles on my Champions so no long term experiences, but truck is running great. I've been running my truck pretty hard of late with hard acceleration and cruising on the freeway at about 80-85mph and a couple of times north of 90mph just because it's running so good. I hope they have a good long life, and if not, I'll replace them...
I switched to champions when the y first arrived just over 3 years ago. Worked great. After @ 150,000 kms I changed them. Wow what a nice enjoyable event getting theme changed. No stress, they just come out in ONE PIECE and its all good.
Heck I was waiting for NGK to produce a 1 piece and they had planned to (they've since told me they will not bother) and NGK in writing told me to buy champions. thats what they'd do if they had a 04-07 5.4 3V. !!!
