Removing Stock Fan

Well I got E fans a while ago and am going to put them in soon. I need to know what tools I will need for removing the stock fan. I am hoping I wont need to get anything from autozone as I have some pretty big sockets and adjustable wrenches. I have not looked at the set up yet as it has been cold here. So is there a nut between the fan and the radiator that I will have to screw off or what. I have tried searching, but no one is specific on the hardware.

If this is a really basic question, I am sorry. I am a 19 year old and I live in white collar country, so no one around can really help me. I have a pretty extensive collection of tools thats ever growing, but would like to try and do this without buying the fan wrench. I just need to know what sizes the nuts are.

Thanks in advanced guys.

Thanks for the smart *** answer, but maybe you should learn to ready before posting. I have searched, and everyone just says get the fan wrench from autozone. I am looking for a SIZE, not some dumbass saying "Google it"

Flame on!

If I remember the nut is about 2". If you have a crescent wrench that opens that wide, it should get it. The problem is holding the water pump pulley still to break it loose.

Is the nut between the fan and the radiator? If so is there enough room for a socket? Thanks for the help windsor.

You were right. It is about 1-7/8". Now if only I tried removing it counterclockwise and not clockwise. Tomorrow is another day. It is also the day I will be removing the fan.

get the fan clutch wrenches from autozone for rent, should be 20 bucks. They say they work on the old 4.9L ford engine, but it works just fine on all the newer stuff.

Standard thread direction. Hold the w/p and turn the fan nut to the left

That nut usually isn't on too tight..be careful though, when you get it off you will have the whole fan with it...hold it tight or it could fall and damage the rad. It's a pretty easy job to do with the right tools..just a holder for the water pump pulley and the large wrench for the nut..standard threads !

Troyer Efans. I set up a group buy so I could get a discount on them.

As far as the picture situation, I cant. I was going to, but when I started getting ready today with tools and such, my sister broken the camera.

It's a loaner tool from Autozone. It's not going to cost anything. They may charge you for the tool but they credit the same amount back when you bring it back. It takes about 2 minutes to get it off. Like someone said in a previous post the trick is holding the pulley still while you loosen the fan. That's what the tool is for.

I'm not trying to be a smarta$$ but if this part of project is slowing you down you might want to reconsider taking on this project....

That part was not slowing me down, I was just misinformed. I installed the fans today and they are working fine. I just need to get my programmer in the mail to properly set temperatures and it will be done. I have it roughly set for temps now, but with the tuner it will be slightly more accurate.

Thanks for the help anyone, and mediumfast, I see what you mean. I take no offense.

I'm glad it's working out. I've had my efans for a few months now they work great. Of course it hasn't really been warm in Washington yet....
