ABS light is on but ABS still works???

05 F150 Lariat 5.4L 4x4

last year my ABS light came on (stayed on and has been on since- whenever key is on), and I tried looking into it myself by doing resistance checks on the 3 speed sensors. the 2 front ones were the same, but the back one was open cct. so I thought I had my problem, but I also found a wire pulled out of the conector, but that was probably my own doing. and I kinda left it at that stage since it was not a priority then (summer time)

so now that it's winter, I notice when i try lock up the brakes on ice, the ABS does operate. (vibrate the brake pedal.) yet the light is still on indicating a problem, and there certainly is a problem becuase the rear diff speed sensor is disconnected. how can it still work??

and obviously, I am on it. new sensor and connector end is on order.

thanks,
john

It's probably only functioning on the front wheels.

you know what, I think your right. I bet the front and back work independantly. I've noticed the ABS working but not working the same. The vehicle seems to be responding differently in a slide this winter than it did last year with a fully functioning ABS system. I bet as one of my front wheels is detected to be be stopped it pumps it accordingly, completely independant of the rear which is not working. I may be getting a fishtail type of behavior when locking up brakes. Definitely need to fix this.
