Silverstars in headlights or Foglights?
9005 in round fogs WILL melt the lens in time. Some people melt theirs in hours, some days,months,years. I melted mine in just under 2 years. The paint on the tip of the bulbs burns thin. Allowing more heat through, then your lens melts. If you do decide to run 9005 I would change the bulb every year to prevent the paint to burn thin.
Just a small word of warning, upgrading those fogs to something brigther than their original purpose will make you very prone to blinding any others on the road. Those in small cars are at a close level of these lights output (especially if leveled) so take it or leave it if you wish.

you really think that? on my 04 both the headlights suck. My 97 has much better light output
Yes. I am quite satisfied with my head & fog output. Very good, compared to my old 2005 Silverado, and G/Fs parents 03 Ram my lights are great. So good that I never did HIDs because I keep forgetting to, but right now I dont really plan to unless I do a projector fitment.
I also have silvers in my heads and fogs and they make a difference...9145's that is...
when I installed them I did only pass side and then looked at them in the dark garage to see what a difference they made...stock lights look very yellow when side by side with silvers...
because I still want more light I am in the process of installing a set of hella 2020 fog/driving lights in the lower grille...hopefully complete this weekend...

I have the 2004 fogs, and I used 9005 silverstars. The 9005 is a high beam bulb, FAR brighter than the stockers. Makes a much bigger difference than the H13 Silverstars do. I only use the fogs outside of town since they are so bright. I am currently retrofitting some 5000k HIDs into my headlights though.

I tried a set of Hella Blue 55 watt 9005's in my 2010 round fogs and have not melted anything - yet. I'm totally not impressed with these lights when compared to the 2004-2005 rectangular fogs. As has been noted, the larger internal area of that light allows safe dissipation of the excess heat generated by the higher wattage bulbs. Then there's the far superior light pattern. The round fogs are just plain useless - no matter what you do with them.
Correct. The 9145 is a lower wattage bulb and that's why you haven't - and won't melt anything.

just wanted to update, after comments I read on here and other forums I decided to go with the 9005s in the fog lights rather than in the headlights in my 05. I have to say I am VERY satisfied with them, they light up the ditches and the road as much as I need to feel safe without bothering other drivers, I didnt feel comfortable running them without confirming their light output so my wife drove my truck, I hopped in her car and we went out on the highway out of town last night, I drove in front of her to see how the light was behind me, then checked how it looked oncoming and wasnt offensive to the eyes @ all. I cant complain. Plus they should hopefully last longer than the average year that I have been hearing due to the fact I only will have to run them when I really need them. Hopefully this helps others.
