Question Battery blues

2007 F150,4.2V6,73K miles

What is the life expectancy of the factory Motorcraft batteries in our trucks? Just lately my truck seems to be turning over slowly upon start up and i'm thinking the battery is getting weak.

Hard to predict. I've seen them last 2 years, I've seen them last 8 years. Mine started doing that after 7 years so I replaced it. Go over to Autozone and get it load tested - when I did mine it tested at 80%.

Just got back from AZ.Parts guy load tested the battery and it was 10.7 amps,2 dead cells.I went to start it and it was dead!
I bought their Duralast 560 CCA/700 with a 3 yr free replacement and 7 year overall warranty. Its been awhile since I heard the starter turn over that quick!

Went through (2) Motorcraft batteries within the 36-month warranty period on my wife's '05 Escape, plus another one that was not under warranty.

So far the battery in my '05 F-150 has hung in there.

I went over to get my '08 Mustang out of storage last week and found that the Motorcraft battery in it is now shot. My 36-month warranty on this vehicle expired December 11, so it looks as if I should have gotten it out of storage a couple of weeks earlier to save me the expense of a new battery.....

Needless to say, I have not been impressed with Motorcraft batteries.....

Go to sears, get a Duralast Gold or Platinum, and have an 8 year battery warranty.

My f150 did the same. Nothing special on there, just the factory subwoofer and some efans. Started to crank over slowly and couple times left me stranded, at work, at school, home. Battery lasted 31 months, 24 of which it was in use by myself. Endured California weather and las vegas weather. The worst of both worlds got to the battery

Just replaced it with an interstate battery and she cranked up instantly, 630+cold cranking amps and can replace it no matter what over the next 3 years free of charge.

BlueOval, it looks like your battery had some issues anyway, but how long did you wait after the load test before trying to start the truck?
The load test absolutely wipes the battery, if you give it 5 minutes recovery time it will usually start again (I'm sure this "feature" helps to sell replacement batteries)

It had been acting up for about a week prior to this.I had tried to start it prior to the test to move my truck but it just clicked. He then load tested it and you know the rest.

I just replaced the type 65 battery in my 05 F150. WalMarts tested it and it showed 487cca versus 650cca new. I had noticed it seemed to be cranking kind of slow on the colder(13F) mornings. Got a 3 yr free replacement 700cca (N)Everstart unit from Wally for $77 plus tax. So I got just over 5 1/2 yrs out of the original.

The battery (OEM) in my 05 sounds weak on the single digit cold mornings we've had in the NE so far. I need to decide which replacement I'm going to buy b4 it's completely dead.

it's always funny to see the # of Battery threads that pop up each winter.

btw, why are you guys throwing such small batteries back into your truck? 650CCA is a tiny battery. For $10-20 more you can get a 800+ CCA battery. Highly recommend you do that instead. Never know if/when you might need it IMO.
