Reverse Lights
Reverse Lights
To avoid clogging up the LED thread I wanted to start my own regarding reverse lights. Since nightshading my tails I've lost a bunch of useable light from the stock reverse lights, to the point that they are almost useless. I'm looking to simply replace the stock lights with something that will be MUCH brighter. Any suggestions?? I want to stay away from adding a line of fire strip, etc. and just replace the bulb. Thanks in advance.
Did you tint the entire light, or did you tape off the reverse area? I had the entire light tinted and am experiencing the same thing.
I heard lacquer thinner will take off the nightshades. I suppose you could tape off the shaded areas or remove the entire tint and redo.

I tinted the entire light. I really like the way it looks so I don't want to remove any of the nightshades. I'm thinking of using these for the reverse lights.

And these for the taillights since they could be brighter as well.

Yeah, and whatever percentage of BU light lost, you lost that same percentage of available brake / signal / tail light.
Here, if you stop and get hit or turn into one that passed you, if we see that paint on there, you get the tickets.
Just something to consider.
Take care ....

If you do decide to remove the nightshades with lacquer thinner, be very careful! It will melt the plastic if it sits too long....i found out the hard way back when i had my mustang!

or you could install an aux reverse light under your back bumper?

I would imagine the white leds would be brighter than halogen. There like a 92 led, which I would think would be brighter than hell. A little expensive, but I'm cool with that if I can stay away from adding any aftermarket lights but still see behind me good while backing up. Did you do a write-up on the Auxillary back up lights you installed on your truck??
No but here's the thread that gave me the idea. https://www.f150online.com/forums/ot...up-lights.html

I think i'm going to go with the leds I linked above. I'll be sure to post some pics once i'm done. Thanks for your help!! Last question, which led is brighter 5k or 6k? I wanna say the 6k has a little bit of a blueish tint making the 5k brighter, but I may be wrong.
I would say 5k is brighter for the same reason. What I've always heard/read is that the most usable light comes from a 4500k-5k bulb. That is for HIDs so it would probably be for leds too, not sure. That's why all these people that have 8k, 10k or higher HIDs can't see for crap but they must like the blue look and don't care about light output.
