Frozen windshield washer nozzles?
Past couple days it's been between 3 and 10 degrees. The nozzles keep freezing up. Even after driving for an hour and trying over and over, last night I could not get any fluid to come out. I have straight washer fluid in there that says it good to -20, nothing diluted. Anyone have a solution to this issue? Thanks.

Ok, just checked the washer fluid, even though it's not diluted and says it's good to -20, there's some slush in there so I'm guessing it's clogging the lines. Is there something super concentrated I can add to help this issue?

Take a look at the last 2 items on this page. I use the Deicer fluid in the winter. Can't say I have ever had a freeze problem. The second Item might be what you are looking for.

Buy fluid good for -40 if you can in your area.

You sure someone didn't slip some +32 fluid in there when you were down south?

this is exactly why i run the rainx de icer all year around. good to -40 and i dont have to worry about the summer stuff freezing up my lines.

I had that problem to, must have been running summer washer fluid. I siphoned out all the blue stuff and put in the orange colored Rain X deicer now all I need is to let it get cold tonight, which is will.

been down this road before, drain it all out and get the rain-x deicer and bug remover like said above

Even here in KY they sell not so cold friendly washer fluid year round, I think the previous owner or whomever added it last time put some fluid that is good down to 32 not below. |
i had the same problem here... has been negative every night so far this week.
i got some deicer... poured some on the nozzles and the rest into the wiper fluid and its all good now. must have been from Sears when they changed my oil / topped off my fluids a while back. |
I guess I just wasn't thinking. I figured all the blue stuff was good enough. I've owned the truck since new and have never had this issue before.

California does not even permit the sale of anything but +32 fluid except in certain counties.

I am glad you have never suffered through frozen nozzles but since I am not a regular denison of the frozen northern wastelands I am not about to throw perfectly good washer fluid out because of an emergency trip. The fluid that was in the tank was rated to around -30F but that does not cut the mustard when it is -15 to -20 and you are traveling about 60mph. Add a little rain in KC the night before and they will freeze up. I will build my heated nozzles and maybe I will construct a few kits and sell them instead of just share the plans. P.S. I opened my tailgate on Friday morning at a shown -27 F, approx. -50F with the wind chill,and the latches froze in the open position. |
