christmas gifts to my truck! lol

Ok, my truck has chrome wheels, door handles, a chrome grill and surround and chrome bumpers. Well last week I completed the first step on removing all the chrome by removing the chrome grill insert and exposing the stock honeycomb grill and having the surround PTM cost about 50 bucks. I have a set of blacked out headlights coming from Sick Hids that will have 8000K 55W HIDs and will have some kind of back lighting, just havent decided on what yet. I tried to order a saleen grill and they are out so I am waiting on it to be available. Today I talked with Josh at Tasca and ordered the telescoping tow mirrors at $309, which also shipped today! I called Line-X and set a appointment to drop off my front and rear bumper on Monday to be sprayed PTM with Line-x Xtra for $450 before taxes. After that I am planning on saving to a set of trail grapps, maby some black XD revolvers and a 4" or 6" lift. Pix will come as I get the parts on.

Here is the surround after PTM

So I posted this in another forum I am a member of and didn't get quite the response I was looking for. Soon as it dries up a little out here I plan on taking my bumpers off to get Line-X'd as well. My question is when you removed the front bumper did you have to take off the upper painted part of the bumper to remove the bottom chrome piece or were you able to take the bottom chrome piece off by itself. If I do this myself it will save me some money for the labor.

In my research I saw a few pic's that show taking the whole front off and someone else told me you can take just the lower portion off but it is hard to line up when you re-install it. Any help would be appreciated and be sure to post some pic's when you have it all done.

Thanks in advance.

I only had to remove the chrome bumper. The part above it was left in place. The Only part of that above the bumper plastic Pice that was attached tO the Crome bumper was in the middle when you open your hood, right in there. FYI I used a new bumper, removed all the hardware from my old bumper, mocked em up on the new bumper and all lined up right, when I got the bumpers back somehow eather with the heat that the line-x was applied at( like 350 deg I think) or feom the ride in my bed with no support brackets, eather way it didn't want to line up. With some muscle and a buddy it took me about 45- an hour to get all the hardware back on and the bumper mounted. The back bumper was no issue. When you go to remove the plastic, use some pliers to collapse the plastic pieces that hold it to the bumper, to reapply I took a hammer and a thick rag, folded up and knocked the plastic catches back into the slots. I ran into a problem with the spare tire lock not being able to catch on the back of the bumper because it was so much thicker. I will be cutting the tabs to make them short enough to catch. I don't have close ups of the bumpers right now but here are the pix I have

I used a floor jack to line my bumpers up, jacked one side, snugged one bolt up, then the other side to match.

Your truck looks great!!!! Did you use the Line-x Xtra of just the regular Line-x? I was told by my local dealer the Xtra keeps the glossy look after time and does not fade like the regular. I am hoping to get my bumpers and running boards done soon. I am thinking I will do my running boards black and I wanted my bumpers to be white but I was told it might turn yelllow after time. I will probably do the front and back black but since I am going black and white it should turn out ok.

I will post some pic's once I have it all done but with this weather it has been a pain to do anything outside.

Thanks for the help

Thanks bro! Ya I got the line-x with xtra. It is supost to stay glossy and block all UV rays so it will never fade. Talk to afew local dealers, see if they have had the issue with the yellow effect and if they will replace it if it turns colors. I originaly wanted ptm bumpers but the paint got mixed wrong from the shop they used and the bumpers were hunter green. I decided I didn't want to chance them doing that to my rockers and flares. Also I looked at alot of the 50th F150s and they have the black on the bottom so I went out on a limb with it. I am really impressed with how easy it is to clean and it is still glossy when dusty/ lightly dirty.

I am eather going to get my current rims powder coated black and 35s or get new rims and 35s. I am still not sure which ones I want. If I get new rims I will get a wider wheel and better backspacing, if not I may do spacers, haven't decided.

Uin2it: my old mirrors do not have turn signals in them. They are just power. Still interested.
