Fuel injectors - or - Plugs - or - COP's = Ford says 1 of those is the issue

OK so as noted in this thread:
https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...ate-issue.html

I've had issues with idle and starting. In the thread above I changed plugs, cop's and a few sensors which have not corrected the issue. Well Thursday night I go to get in my truck and go to work and holly crap, the thing is shaking bad. I get to work fine, 14 hours later I get off work and it takes 5 times to get it started with a order of gas when she finally starts. I get over to ford (truck idling hard/bad) and the GM hooks a laptop up to my truck and shows 1 and 4 are missing big time. He says it could either be fuel injectors/cop/plugs and he suggest I put my old MC COPs back on those. I get home, swap them out, pull plug and inspect, put old MC COP's back on and same issue. I decide (because my truck is an 05) to take it back to ford. On the way back it finally throws a check engine light but I had taken my tuner out so I don't know what code it's throwing.

Anyways long story short, can a truck with a bad cop or plug have issues with starting (3-5 trys) and give off a bad gas smell?
Based on my research it's a prime example of fuel injectors but the GM (not knowing anything) just blurts out "well you didnt use MC COPs or it could be a plug"...seems like he instantly wanted to point fingers at me.

My truck is set to be worked on first thing tomorrow and I should know something by mid afternoon but I'm just worried about them making a large bill for me to have to pay out of pocket if its a plug or COP that I changed. I do however have my extended warranty to cover anything else.

I'm betting on leaky injectors, which will be covered.

Seems to me you can use your programmer to read the codes without loading a tune........

Yeah but I was on my way back to ford to drop my truck off after I took my tuner out and left it home.

I sure hope it's the injectors.

When I had a bad injector I had no CEL but my Edge pulled an injector fault code. I pulled it over before it blew, had it towed to the dealer. The engine hydrolocked at the dealer, snapped a rod and I got a new short block and on e injector. Had the other 7 replaced for peace of mind.

So 5 days now ford has had my truck and they can't figure out why the miss fires or hard to start. They questioned me about what type of plugs. I used MC then they wanted to know what the part number was and I told them sp-507. They then questioned me about the global COPs.

As of now they are pulling the plugs on the left side (that's the only side that is having issues) and they are going to put cups under the injectors to see if anymore leak after they sit for a couple of hours.Guy tried to tell me I didn't have a extended warranty and I had to call ford ESP and have them place a call to the dealership. Needless to say I wont see my truck today.

Sounds Very Similar to a Problem I Had Once.

Years ago, I had a Ford Aerostar that ran fine until I gave it a tune-up before going on vacation. When I was done the engine ran extremely rough. It felt like it was going to jump out from under the hood. After chasing my tail for a week, and over $400 later, I discovered the problem. I replaced my plugs with Bosch Platinum plugs (and yes they were the right ones); and as it turned out, they had the wrong ohmic value and the PCM couldn't handle it. I replaced them with MC plugs and it purred like a kitten. Make sure the plugs and the COP's you used ohm out correctly.

Ive had idle and starting issues for months. I replaced the plugs almost 7 weeks ago and truck ran good but the idle and starting would come and go so I decided to replace the COP's. Those around about 4 weeks old and truck ran fine then this past Thursday night...BAH....truck went nuts.

OK so dealer just called me and now they are working with Ford (I laughed when he said that...ummm u are ford), anyways.....They believe it to be mechanical and they said something about oil pressure or tensioner. They are checking that tomorrow and then going to call me.

What's even more horrible is I have new toys (new tunes, new CAI, new amp) that I wanted to install on my only day off and I dont have my baby

Just got the call from Ford so I'm going to update this thread and my other thread as what the issue was. Again this was related to hard starting, rough idle and acceleration.

[1] #4 fuel injector was leaking which caused a new 6 week old plug to go bad. Both were replaced by Ford.

[2] Cam shaft on pass side was off and they had to reflash my PCM. They said with the new flash and injector/plug fix it runs great.

I'm on my way up to pick up my truck. Total cost was $117 which is my diagnostic fee on my extended warranty.
