Yep, I'm building a light bar for my truck and I'm going to retrofit the ddm's h3 55wat hid lights into them. I have two 700ffs and two 500ffs that I will be mounting. I'm putting hids in the 700ffs for sure, I may leave the 500ffs for normal driving use though.

The FF models have clear reflector lenses instead of the more fog light that disperses the light.

Here is a Hella 500

Here is a Hella 500FF

That's truly the only difference in them. I am going to wire them with a 3 way switch like I have my current off road lights set up on. Up-With High beams, Mid-Off, Down-On.

I'm not sure. The ff's stand for Free Form Technology. Bascially the best of both worlds with deep straight light, while spreading to the sides also. They are also designed to not provide glare for other drivers on the road. A little research has told me that the 500s were 25% efficient, and the 500FFs is now 40%. I really don't think you will see to terribly big of a difference in light output between the different lenses to be honest though. I think either are a great choice.

now here is the real question. how much of a difference will it make, already having hi/lows 55watt hid's in the heads?
