key wouldn't turn
 

As the title say's. me and the wife were at lowe's, we are 30 miles from home. We buy the lumber we need and i tell the wife to drive the truck over to me to load the lumber. See her trying to start the truck and she yell's to me which way do's the key turn. I tell her it only turn one way, she say's it dosn't turn. o.k. so you know woman, i think she has something goofed up here. i walk over and sure enough the key dosn't move. pull it out a couple of times and still dosn't turn, make sure it's in park, push on the brake, jiggle the key back and forth a few time's. Now it's friday night 8pm and i'm thinking how am i gonna get this taken care of, no dealer is gonna be open and i'm 30 miles from home. Insert the key again, move it back and forth a few times, and now it works. When i got home i pulled it out and inserted a few times and it worked fine. anyone have this issue? i don't want to be a way's from home with a truck that won't start.

sometimes you may have to jiggle the steering wheel back and forth as the lock will get a little jammed. Were the wheels pointed straight?

should of been, since i pulled straight into the parking spot.

Might want to "lube" the switch with a SMALL amount of WD-40. Or I think you can buy lubricant just for locks.

ditto. try turning the wheel to the left while u try to turn the key

I've had mine do it when park isn't fully engaged. I had to shift it in and out of park to get it to finally get in that perfect position to where it fully recognizes that it is in park and allows me to turn the key.

how do u shift it out of park without having the key turned :confused:

with a floor shifter it has a little play, not sure about column. It doesnt actually come fully out of park, but you just press the brake in and wiggle it until it finds that sweet spot.

Lube the cylinder just a bit with some WD-40 or something similar. Do you have a bunch of keys on your keyring? The extra weight could cause the cylinder to wear out prematurely.
