i bought a used 2006 f150 xlt that has a 2"x2" plastic box with a push button that snaps on the round part of the rearview mirror that attaches to the windshield and has a harness coming from the headliner just as a power rearview mirror would going to the box . does anyone have a clue what it does. i have looked through the book and cant figure it out.thanks

Compass module. It should be in the manual.

 

i think its for the auto headlights. cover it up and see if your head lights come on..

Comapss module on 04-06. The 07-08's don't have the module outside the mirror even though they have the compass, too.

 

Sensor for the auto headlights would be on the dash. Do XLTs have auto headlights?

 

My 07 has one on the mirror, which doesnt work LOL.. i have the dreaded (-_-) as well. Mine wont reset when i hold the button down..also checked the connection which is connected..guess my module is bad..$100.00 bucks at stealership so i will use my GPS instead.

 

Maybe it was just 08 then, but I thought the 07's got the new-style mirror too.
