road trip
Anyone got any road trip feedback in your f150? good/bad experiences? any 8hr+ days of driving?
I am thinking of doing a couple road trips in my truck this summer: Denver to Anaheim and/or Denver to Flathead lake Montana.
We normally take our 4runner on road trips, but between my wife and 2 daughters, we stuff that thing and I'm sure we'd have more room in the truck using the bed for our luggage. The interior of my screw is more roomy than the 4runner believe it or not.
I guess I'm really wondering how bad my butt is going to fall asleep

i did a 4.5 hour one way trip but did it there an back right away the other night..besides the fact that this was after 8 hours of work, rode good, i didnt have any complaints about the ride, other than that longest ive spent in one was backseat of a ext cab for like 2.5 hours..by myself it wasnt bad cuz i just sat sideways lol
2 weeks ago I moved from Orlando, FL to Phoenix, AZ and did the ~2200 mile drive in 2 days including sleeping for about 4 hours in the truck. I've done a few road trips in the truck and after about 6 hours my back started hurting. Right before the trip I had the truck serviced at the dealer and they moved my seat (power, no memory) so when I put the seat back it must have been in a little different position. Whatever it was, it made all the difference. For some reason, I was completely fine on this trip. I even got to see 19 mpg driving through LA and east TX.
2 months ago, back in february my gf and i left sw florida and headed up the the smoky mountains in Gatlinburg, TN (THANKS TO UNCLE JESSE FOR ALL YOUR HELP) it was right at about 12 hours 1 way and my truck performed flawlessly. Once we hit the snow, the 4wd and my bfg at's handled with no problem. Even going up the mountain roads, had plenty of power and done great. I was really pleased, except for my butt hurting after 12 hours of driving/riding. Now that I just had my lift installed and 35's on, I am ready to try it again!!
Last July I drove from Milwaukee, WI to Little Sturgis, Kentucky. It's 10 hours and 500 miles one way. I was traveling with a group of 3 guys who wear all riding their bikes. The worst part was passing through Chicago because we got stuck in rush hour traffic. Once we got past Chicago we did 80-90 mph all the way there traffic and cops permitting. This was my first road trip in the truck and the first time I had ever driven that distance in my life.
I rather enjoyed the drive since the weather was nice (85-95F) most of the time so I got to drive with the windows open. Since I was using my phone/computer for radio hooked through the Aux-In jack I rarely lost music. I was plenty comfortable in the truck. It was loaded down with probably 300-400 lbs of gear including all our camping equipment for once we got there.
The trip back wasn't quite as fun since I was pretty tired after a few days of staying up late/getting up early. At that point I opened all the windows and maxed the AC right in my face to keep me awake. Also maxed out the radio. Eventually we stopped and I got some ice cold water to splash my self with to wake up and that got me the remaining 200 miles to home.
I had no choice but to drive the entire thing so I was alone in the truck. There also wasn't anybody to talk to most of the way so that might make it easier.
This summer I plan to take at least 1 trip to northern Wisconsin to visit family. It's about 250 miles or 4 hours one way. I've driven up there the past 3 years but have yet to do it in my F150.

I go to school at FSU (Tallahassee, FL) but live in Virginia Beach, VA and I make the trip a couple times a year. Usually solo takes me about 12 hrs. Its not bad as long as I have plenty of those 5 hour energy shots.

I have driven 4 1/2 hours to Sugar Land from Fort Worth, spent about an hour and drove back on the return trip. Not a problem other than a little sleepy since it was after work and most of the night.

I have made several trips to St. Louis and to Albany GA from Durham NC. This is with a wife, three kids and two little ratty dogs shedding all over. I had no problems nor complaints, the trips were enjoyable and the rides were great.
My truck does 6+ hour trips to the ranch at least 5 times a year, most times towing or hauling firewood. These trips aren't easy because the first 4 hours is just highway driving in the summer heat (100+), and then the last hour or 2 is straight up a 8000 foot grade. Towing wasn't fun on that section before getting custom tuning. Probably the reason the first tranny went :o.
I did a 9 hour trip (1 way, 18 hour round trip) all the way up the Oregon coast and back a couple months ago, it went fine. Loaded up with buddies, gear, kegs etc. Changed the oil right before I left. This trip saw high elevation mountain climbs also.
My biggest complaint is the seats though. Anything more than 3 hours and your *** is gonna cramp up and its no fun.

and if you wanna get crazy hyper, dont ask me how i know this, but take a five hour and about 30 mins later jam techno, holy crap i did that from like louisianna to houston last time and it only took me like 2.5 hours to get home from there lol
The longest continuous trips I've done on my truck are from Auburn to Baton Rouge, via New Orleans, which took about 7 hours with a couple of pit stops. Had 5 people in the truck, no problems. Also did Auburn to Tampa in a straight shot with 4 people which was another 7 hour trip.
Ive been done a total of probably 5 or 6 12 hour one way trips in the F150 this year alone, went to Wisconsin last week and this week off to Montana, its nothing to me I guess and if I can I even drive them at night. My rule is the only time we stop is for gas, but when pulling the snowmobile trailer it gets alittle more frequent lol.
