Epic Fail, Ford.
Ya know what pisses me off? My buddy came over today in his '97 F150 while I was cleaning my '04, which he has had since '97, and the OEM bed rail caps on his look FLAWLESS. They are perfectly black, just like they should be. Then you look at mine, and they are mostly white and grey.
WTF Ford? Obviously some corners must have been cut here. You had it right in '97, so why are we going backwards now and using inferior parts?! Both trucks have been in the same environment since they were released from the factory, and the 7-year older one has nicer bed cap rails.
I'm just pissed, mine look like complete *** and there's no way to make them look even decent, and all my buddy has to do is a single wipe with Armor All and they shine better than any of the plastic anywhere on my truck!
Thanks Ford!

Paint the bed rails with Krylon Fusion and problem is solved for at least a couple of years or use Bondo Restore Black and it will last for months. Yes, there are a few things on your truck not as good as his but overall, I like the newer ones much better.

There is more to it than just lack of proper care. There is no doubt that the plastic and rubber components on the NBS are inferior to prior years. They just don't hold up to the sun regardless of what normal protectants you use on them. There are too many threads devoted to restoring them by people that really take care of their truck for it to be one person's neglect.

It's TWO people's neglect

Good catch old feller
And yep - paintin' is the best way - for the rails and cowl and flares ....

He is not a new guy, he is westtnfx4 with a new screenname, which is not allowed. He received a vacation for thread crapping with his original name and thougt he would create an interim name to continue thread crapping. Didn't work.

That's the only way they could stay black and still be so old. Every 97-03 truck I've has had whitish gray trim pieces.
Way more to it.
