Nearly 3 years and I just noticed this

I have had my truck for almost 3 years now, I have washed it no telling how many times during that time. My brother and I were outside the other day by my truck and were just talking. I was by the passenger back door on the truck and happen to look at the gap between the cab and bed. It looked big to me for some reason, so I went to the driver side and looked at the gap on that side, it looked closer. So I had to get the tape measure out and size it up. After doing so the passenger side gap is 3/4" wider than the driver side. Now its driving me crazy, what can I do about it. See if you can tell the difference, and any help how to correct this problem would be great.

Damn you public school internet blockers!

Usually bed/cap gaps are caused by rearend collisions and lazy body shops not doing a proper job. Did you buy in brand new or used?

I'd venture to say that he bought new. His truck is an 07 and it's 2010 so that's about 3 years.

jcrew, I think there might be a little adjustment in the bed if you loosen the bed bolts, but someone else might chime in that knows better.

I bought it used with 18k miles from the dealer. Everything checked out when I bought it. I am just wondering if can from the factory like that. I guess I could unbolt it and reposition it right?

Its probably just bad alignment of the bed. You should be able to just loosen the bed bolts and move it. When I put my body lift on me and my brother neglected to check the spacing of my bed and now its crooked. It drives me nuts, unfortunately i have a drop in bed liner and a tool box so its a pain in the *** to get to the bed bolts. I gotta stop being lazy one day and fix it.

If you measured 3/4" difference, then each side is 3/8" from where it should be. That is a big difference, and I would think an indicator of an accident.

did you get a car fax before you bought the truck? May have indicated that it was in an accident. Like Nettershakes said, You should be able to just loosen the bed bolts and move it.

No the tires are doing fine, I didn't get a car fax, I bought the truck from a very very good friend of mine at the dealership. Trust me he would have told me if the truck had ever been wrecked.

That doesn't mean anything. Does your friend personally know the history of that truck since the day it left the factory? I kinda doubt it.

It took you 3 years to notice and you saw it almost every day. 99.999999% of the people in this world would never notice it and the rest don't care. It's not hurting anything and it's better than many. DON'T WORRY! There is nothing wrong.

I agree. Unless you buy it new, you'll never know. Carfax isn't worth much either. The autobody place has to submitt the accident to Carfax and that is 50% at best

I bought my truck new and my bed isn't aligned properly either. It's actually to far to the right meaning that on the drivers side the bed isn't flush with the cab if you were looking straight down the side. Now the passenger side on the other hand is perfectly flush. Go figure.

After a ton of years in the trade, I can tell you for a fact, THESE VEHICLES ARE MASS PRODUCED! Some are really good, some are not so good. If you think they're bad now, you ought to have seen them in the '70's. I worked in a Chebby dealership then and you were lucky if all 4 tires touched the ground at the same time. A lot of them were almost beyond belief. It's not as easy as just loosening the bolts and shoving it over. Unless you shove the whole thing over, and then you're too close to the bumper on one side and too far on the other. Not that you can't make it better than it is, and make a lot of people happy, but most of the time if the factory could have fit it much better they would, it seldom can be made PERFECT, just better than it is by fudging here and there. They're a whole lot better than they were, but still mass produced and not perfect. The shine of the new paint gets in your eyes and you don't see those things til a lot of the new wears off.
