Need Help...trading in the 99 for a ????

Looking at trading the 99 step side in (barely 65k on the odo) for a 04-07 possibly even 08 if the payment falls right.

gotta have ext cab or 4 door cab (damn dog got huge on me!) everything else is negotiable except maybe buying a white truck...which will never happen.

wondering what things you guys could chime in about that you hated/ loved. I know the spark plug thing, i know the brake fire thing(or was that only pre 03?) what should i be looking for?

thanks in advance !

No brake fire problem, to my knowledge. Yes, spark plugs are a nuisance for a good number of 04-08 owners, but not all by any means.

I have had my truck for almost 16 months, bought it with 61k on it, now about to hit 90k. Only problem I've had is one of the window regulators, almost exactly a year ago. That is the ONLY (knock on wood) thing I have had to "fix."

I change the oil every 4k with Ford recommended 5w-20 Motocraft SynBlend and use a Motorcraft filter. Get it all at Wal-Mart for under $20.

I have dumped money into this thing. I previously had 3 different Chevy Z-71s and most recently a 2006 F-250 Powerstroke Lariat Scab w/ 19k on it. The F-150 is by far my favorite truck. It does everything I ask it too, and does it well.

I have absolutely no complaints. I was able to fit 35's on it for just $65. My sound system is rockin' and no seating room has been lost. Starts up every time I want it to, has never left me stranded anywhere.

I love the overall look of these trucks. They are a great mix of function and luxury.

These trucks are built very solid, and even with 35's I get 16-17 MPG on the highway.

As far as coming from the factory, my favorite thing about the truck would have to be the power rear sliding window. I LOVE having that haha. They are also easy trucks to work on, another plus for me. I hate paying people to work on my vehicle.

Let us know what you do, but I promise ya the 04-08's are great trucks. I know it looks like we b**** about them a lot, but this forum is a place we come with our problems a lot. They are great trucks.

thanks for the reply

im looking forward to it, i figure nows a good time since my truck is right at the sweet spot where what i owe = what its worth. I really dont know what happened but it almost seems as if my 99 is rotting around me the brake line went yesterday, and thanks to the NY winter salts my rockers are almost non existent. But it has honestly been the most dependable truck ive ever owned. I will admit tho, i have seen a couple silverado's i liked. I havent test drove anything yet but i'll be off the rest of this month (having surgery tomorrow) and in about a wekk i will be able to function again. Hehe maybe the recent surgery will win some points with the dealer for a better price. i wont be able to speak well for a while lol. :P

Love about my '04.
#1. Comfortable cab.
#2. Good ride off road on the hunting lease. (One of my hunting buddies has an '01 and it beats him to death on the same trails).
#3. Taller / deeper cargo box.
#4. Dash layout. I didn't care for the '97-'03 dash. I liked the '90-'96 though!

Hate.
#1. Rattling noise in the back of the cab that I can't locate. Sounds like two plates knocking together.
#2. Window regulators.
#3. Spark plug problem.

i love mine. ive only had it for 2 weeks but its apparent that ill drive a ford truck from here on out. before i had this i know i always havet to have a mustang, now i know my setup for life. ford truck and mustang.

love my truck for the seats (drove it 700 miles in 2 days) , back doesent hurt
comfort -rides great
power -it pretty much chugs up hills at 1500 rpms
pulling capabilities - can pull my mustang

dont like the window regulator problem, and the plug problem. some have cam phaser problems.

gas...ehh, i got 15.2 in my jeep typicaly by the onboard computer, trucks around high 14s low 15s, totally worth it for me, haveing a huge gas tank is nice. i can drive everywhere on a quarter tank of gas.

april 10th i will have had mine for a year. Ive put 14k miles on it and love it. It rides really nice on highway trips. My only gripe (other than whats already mentioned) is that it is so smooth I find myself speeding alot lol
