I just had mine done at the dealership. They broke 6 out of the 8 and said it took 4 hours to get one of them out. They only charged me for 2 extra hours of labor over the standard plug change. I think it's just a mind game to make you feel lucky that it only costs $583.64 to change the spark plugs. Oh, plus the $139.00 for the induction system cleaner that's supposed to make the plugs come right out.

My trucks a 2004 and has 72K on it.

I found the TSB here:

There's some info about the tool on page 5. I just bought by truck at 60K...I've purchased everything I need but I'm scared to do it before my vacation next week. We're taking the truck to Moab! The week after, may the force be with me.

My buddies shop did mine. Quoted me 550.00. They apparently broke all 8 but got them all out with the tool. I think It took about a day with the soaking. I still haven't got my bill yet. I am redoing his basement and he doesn't have mine bill yet either!!

It is a 08 with about 64k on it. From what I have read here breaking plugs is common but most come out fine with the tool.

I didn't think the 08's had the same problem as the 05's did

Yes, the dealer I selected told me $325 and never mentioned a thing about breaking a plug. Only told me about the strict procedure they follow to get them out and never mentioned any upcharge (but I am sure there will be an upcharge if he does happen to break a plug). The dealer I did not select told me $280 and then $95 per hour to retrieve any plugs they happen to break. I will let you know how it goes. Any other items I should have them take care of at 53,000 mi? I was going to have them check the fuel filter so see if it had ever been changed (I could not locate it).

The redesigned head was an 08 midyear change. Black cops = old design, brown cops = new design.

The Lisle tool is as cheap as it gets for something that works that's not homemade. It's 1/3 the price of the official Rotunda tool.

Holy Crap shoot batman! My quote from a dealer was $285 + $85 per broken plug. I wouldn't bill for the remodel till the plug change bill comes in.
